I doubt it happens with the way this team has treated his severe injuries in the past, but this part of the article was kind of interesting ... and sounds like a damn good plan.

While Oden is trying to return to the court as quickly as possible, agents Bill Duffy and Mike Conley are promising to oversee a thorough investigation to understand why the No. 1 pick of the 2007 draft has suffered two major knee injuries in three NBA seasons. Oden missed his entire rookie season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee. Last year he sat out 14 games after suffering a bone chip in his left knee.

"Mike and I are going to do a thorough analysis of every aspect of Greg's physiology,'' Duffy told SI.com Thursday. "That means there will be no stone unturned in terms of really understanding his body -- the balance of his body, the symmetry of his body, the strength of his bones. Every aspect as relates to nutrition, DNA, muscle mass, everything we can study, we're going to dig into at this point.''
Duffy said he and Conley will seek out the best medical and training advice "around the world.''

"He's working hard and doing everything that he's asked,'' said Duffy of Oden. "But we're going to take it to the next level.''

Good thinking Greg, don't rely on this medical staff to figure things out.

That's great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I'd love to see if what the agents find out differs from our course of treatment. I'm not sold on our medical staff.

That's why I am heading down to Kells before the game tonight. A good night for drinking! Plus the Kells bus to do the driving to the game!

Agents are essentially salesman. Anytime a salesman tells me he's going to look into every angle, unearth every stone, a little part of me can't help but end the sentence "....just as soon as I get done boning this hot little thing I've got on the side and got my kid to set up the interwebs on my laptop so I can check out pics of the new Mercedes. Hur. Hur."

I wish Oden the best, but it's the agent's job to represent his player to management. It's great that the agents want to see their golden goose healthy, but in the end, it's really up to Oden himself to make sure he's taken care of.

Let's put it another way. Agents get a percentage of their client's earnings. They have a direct undeniable interest in him getting another lucrative contract and if that means talking to a ton of different kinesiologists, physiologists, orthopedists, etc. then what's the harm really? Maybe they'll gain some insight into something that wasn't identified before.

First on my list if I was Greg would be to look up Tim Grover

Spoken like a true die hard Blazer fan.

I am not a health professional, but it looked to me like the kid could use to lose some more weight, just to make the pounding a little easier on his lower half. Other than that, I am sure they will figure out some things to help him. There are people that just do not deserve the crap that come their way, and unfortunately, it seems like Oden is getting more than his share of the bad luck early in his career.

Hope he comes back with a vengeance.

its called not being a homer hcp..

being real and honest

Finally the medical staff, "gets it", he is too valuable to just give adequate care to, he needs the best team around the world to sustain his NBA existence after all he because he is the God that I pray to.

There's probably a spectrum. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being a doom sayer 5 being a realist and 10 a blind homer you're about right here:

Code:
                           1<-----------------------5----------------------->10

OMG, my heart lept when I read this. This is GREAT news. Sounds like Oden's pissed. He wants to play. That would be so great if he came back this season.

Man, I must have had a few too many because I think we actually beat the Suns. That Mixum, his faith in the Blazers is tried and true.

Oden is not ruling out returning this season.

He is also not ruling out attending Rabinical school, a sex change, or a campaign for the presidency of Estonia.

Milk... It does a body good. Drink a gallon a day Greg and take as many calcium + magnesium supplements as possible. Gotta make those bones strong as ever. I blame NATE!

Funny you should mention this. Back during Chris Dudley's first season in Potland (the one where he missed all but 6 games due to a broken ankle), I used to run into him at the local supermarket. He'd have a nearly empty shopping cart with few items and FOUR gallons of milk.

It must have worked because he played 82, 80 and 81 games over the next three seasons with the Blazers.

Milk - it does a body good.

And they weren't giving the 'once in a generation centre' this medical treatment from day one because . . . . ??

Love the competitive desire, but I hope he doesn't short-change the rehab in his hurry to get back to playing. I want him playing as soon as possible, but it's more important to me that he does everything he can to maximize the number of games he can play going forward, after his return.

Yeah for sure. Love his desire to get back on the court, but, I don't think anyone could handle the unthinkable happening again.
Better for the big fella to spend the remainder of this season making sure his body is right to go, for next season and the rest of his career.

Somewhat comforting to hear he's finally getting a complete body examination.

You know every other time we have waited for his body to "be right" and taken a really long time to get him back, it has been to no avail. We wouldn't be worried with most other players coming back if they came back early, in fact for the most part, the fans would be ecstatic. I say if he feels he can play, and contribute, you let him. It might be off the bench for a few minutes of Joel being relieved here and there, but that might be enough to tip a game, or playoff game.

I'd rather shelve him for 10-15 games at the end of the season to make sure he's fully right, rather than risk him for what would probably only be one extra round gained in the playoffs.
He'll most likely only be playing at 30-60% capacity anyway. Not worth the risk considering his history.

While milk has calcium in spades, the milk fats are indigestible without a GREATER amount of calcium then cow's milk provides. If he is a milk drinker he should drink Goat's milk which is similar to human milk and far more digestible with a higher usable calcium content by far. Certain leafy green vegetables are much better sources of calcium or supplements. Milk does NOT do a body good. The milk fats actually require more calcium to digest then is found in the milk so it leeches it from your bones. It's actually bad for your bones. You will note the commercials never say milk gives you strong bones. They say "The calcium in milk is good for bones" much like the 5 hour energy commercial talks about how the chemicals in it are the same as ones found in brocolli and avocados and so forth as to why it is safe. Don't buy into the milk lobby. Cow milk is NOT good for you.

Disclosure I eat meat and have cream in my coffee so I'm not a vegan nazi idiot peta lover.
