We were supposed to be one of the two or three worst teams in the league.

We were supposed to be contending for the #1 draft pick. Nobody gave us a shot because we lost four out of five starters. Nobody gave us a shot because we lost Aldridge.

If the coaches value wins while picking the All-Stars, then they clearly didn't take into consideration that this team is CURRENTLY IN THE PLAYOFF PICTURE.

What a crock of shit. Dame is not only one of the top scorers in the league (6th best), and one of the top assist men in the league, but our team has been playing above expectations and Dame is a big part of that. The coaches can shove it. I hope Dame torches them all.

I thinks he still makes it. The stats everyone is throwing out are pretty hard to not acknowledge.
If there is an injury I bet he makes it regardless of position.

Couldn't agree more, spot on.

Portland will always be a second class franchise to this league. I won't be watching the All Star game. They can honestly go
f-ck themselves. It's a popularity contest to see who gets the most bench interviews during the game. The old guard rules are more than ever.

LaMarcus Aldridge - All-Star

42nd in scoring.
20th in rebounding.
43rd in blocks
20th in offensive rebounding.
21st in defensive rebounding.
45th in PER.

I mean... it goes on and on.

Here is the top 10 in the league in scoring (if the lists are right - here are the All-Stars)

1. Curry - All-Star
2. Harden - All-Star
3. Cousins - All-Star
4. Kevin Durant - All-Star
5. LeBron - All-Star
6. Lillard - SNUBBED
7. Westbrook - All-Star
8. PG13 - All-Star
9. DeRozan - All-Star
10. Davis - All-Star

Okay how about top 20?

11. Butler - All-Star
12. Isaiah Thomas - All-Star
13. Carmelo - All-Star
14. Lowry - All-Star
15. Klay - All-Star
16. Wiggins - No
17. CJ - No
18. Kemba - No
19. Hayward - No
20. Kawhi - All-Star

So out of the top 15 scorers in the league, Dame is THE ONLY NON ALL-STAR PLAYER.

Dame already said it's not about him. His job is to build up his teammates. He's a true All Star who doesn't have to flex his muscles to prove a point. He's bigger than that. In a year or two, we'll have 2 or 3 All Stars because of the leadership he's shown in turning our team into a winner.

I thought Dwight Jaynes said Lillard is overpaid?

It doesn't matter because we all know what's up.

I think Dame deserves to be there but am happier with deserving to go and being snubbed than being an All-Star who don't deserve it. I think it symbolizes our entire season and I like it that also as a team we're better than people give us credit for

+I would expect this as I am also a Ravens fan. The leagues give the hardest working teams with the most off luck the knuckle end of the business finger. They always vote for their top poster teams

We can always count on Nate to lead the Portland Soccer Moms into battle!
You know, it might actually help Dame's case, if somebody like Bill Simmons got off his elitist ass and at least wrote something about the situation. Us "soccer moms," would at least know we'd have the press support of his ex-Grantland buddies. But those ivy league educated, pop culture obsessed dick heads wouldn't be caught dead throwing their hat into "our ring." Besides, Bill can't be bothered to get up off his knees and remove his head from Larry Bird's lap, gentle bobbing up and down.

I guess it all balances out. I thought he got in two years ago on the "team success" award.

Anyway, the west is loaded with guards, and with Kobe getting the victory lap treatment/lifetime achievement award we knew somebody deserving was going to get snubbed.

If Dame wanted in, then the Blazers needed to be above .500

Dame is a marketing whiz and has consistently throughout his career received more national press and praise than his play probably warranted. Continuing to bitch about these things just adds fuel to the fire of the people you so detest.

Yeah. But at some point, the lack of national attention will stick in his craw. Maybe not now, but in three or four years. He's hitched his wagon to Portland for the long hall. And he'll get his contract from Adidas regardless. But having the rest of the league look him over because he plays in the US equivalent of say Leeds or Newcastle, that will begin to hurt. Everybody wants to be recognized among the best at what they do. Let's hope he's encured enough favor with journalists to go to bat for him.

Dame getting in would have meant leaving another guard out, which would have meant Klay or Harden. Klay's playing for the Warriors and they're on pace to break the win record. Harden's numbers are a bit higher than Dame's and the Rockets, while under-performing, have a better record than the Blazers. Personally, I wouldn't trade Dame for either one of those guys and I think Harden't a flopping douche, but I can see why the coaches went the way they did.

That is not entirely true. I haven't seen how the numbers played out but there are two wild card choices which can go to either a big or a guard. So Dame could have replaced someone like LMA in that scenario.

True, but then the West would have been really undersized and there wouldn't have been enough PT to go around for all of the guards. I guess Klay could have played SF, but you know that they're going to give Kobe a bunch of minutes at that spot (unless he breaks down and can't play).

What would be the best thing ever is if Kobe gave his spot to Dame, since he said that Dame absolutely deserves to be in and Kobe knows his numbers are not worthy...

Never happen though....

Why do we care? The all-star game is a big circle jerk anyway, and it will be especially distasteful this year with the emphasis on Kome's last year, blah blah...........let's all watch him start, suck, and dribble off to the glue factory.

Rest Dame, win games.

I was thinking he was getting more national attention then any Blazer before him. Between his music and his commercials he is extremely visible. Once the Blazers start winning he will get more, but the need to be in a huge city/market in order to maximize one's brand is becoming less important each year. Even the Laker homers have been acknowledging that as of late. The Lakers can still sell the weather, but that is about it. Look at Westbrook and Durant, they get plenty of national attention, and they are in OKC.

Yeah. I mean Drexler got over that sh-t after a while. He played at a high level long enough and Portland was in the playoffs long enough, that he got the recognition. But I'm a Portland native and I don't appreciate that "you gotta pay extra dues" bias that our players suffer from. And I don't appreciate the small market "Prius driving soccer mom" lines that East Coast dick heads like Bill Simmons tag us with. We have never hosted an All Star game and the excuses are ringing more hollow. Portland has to pull it's own weight as a major city at some point. It has a national identity now and it has a culture. It's not just a stop on I-5 between Seattle and So Cal any more. We need to be more assertive in how people view us as a city.

I'm fine with Lillard not making the team. He has a great argument to make it but if you look at the other reserves I think the coaches got it right. It's a very close decision. Honestly I might rate CJ ahead of Dame through this point of the season. Dame is a poor defender. At this point were splitting hairs though; Dame has been tremendous and this is a great season for a PG he is putting together.

Boogie has put up monster numbers and elevated a terrible franchise to the same playoff picture as us.

LaMarcus has been part of a historic defense. It's more difficult to be a top member of the second best team in the league than a 20ppg scorer on a losing team.

Anthony Davis is having a disappointing season relative to his possible MVP discussion but he's such a matchup problem for opposition. Without him that team might've lost as much as the 6ers.

Harden is probably the worst player to make it but again when your in the MVP discussion and do lead your team to a winning record, even if it's far short of expectations, I understand the pick.

Really Dame is just stuck trying to make it in a loaded Western conference. 3 Warriors make the team deservedly so as possibly the best team of all time. Two Spurs make it being the best defensive team of all time. Kobe gets voted in as some bizarre send off tour I've never witnessed and don't understand. Durant and Westbrook are both locks being MVP teammates on a squad that other years could be the top team in the league.

That leaves 4 spots for all the teams ranked 4-14 in the conference. Switch the Spurs and Warriors with the Nets and 6ers then Dame makes it no question.

Or just the opposite... He was bent out of shape over last year's snub, but seems okay with it this year.

I like his reaction... he improved all facets of his game including defense since last year (while he's double and triple teamed now). He did what he could, been there done that... he's more focused on team play.
