Sloane Stephens into 3rd round

American Sloane Stephens and former French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia both advanced to the third round after winning in straight sets Thursday.

Stephens, seeded 15th, won 6-1, 6-3 against Slovenia's Polona Hercog, while Kuznetsova beat Camila Giorgi of Italy 7-6 (5), 6-3.
