Small Market Complaints About 'Tampering"

Sometimes my hatred for them hibernates just a little, then something like this happens. You think the national media talks too much about it, the local sports talk shows here in LA act as if it is there right to get him. Funny because when they couldn't get a top FA to come to LA in the last few years they all started to acknowledge that you can build your brand anywhere these days. Now that LeBron signed in LA they are back to the theory that a player is foolish not to want to play for the Lakers. Because only in the media capital of the world is it beneficial for them ......... after BB. Like these stars worth 100 million dollars really need to worry about that.

Fuck the Lakers

I have been shocked how the NBA has taken a blind eye to openly making comments about recruiting a player under contract. That was once a big taboo.

Was it ever disallowed for players to do so, or only front office and coaching staff?

Apparently the NBA is allowing players to do this. I have no idea why as recruiting is recruiting. I bet this gets addressed soon with the complaints from some of the NBA teams. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Bet anything that Neil was one of the quotes

Either he refused to comment, does Neil pick up phones anymore? Or, his quote was not included because it went something like, "Look, I'll be going back to LA soon, I'm ok with it. Does it make my job hard. Yes. You can't overreact like the fans are doing. Oh God, the Blazers aren't winning because the NBA isn't enforcing tampering and allowing all the star players to congregate and create superteams. Those stars aren't coming to Portland to begin with. As a GM in a small market you have to bifurcate those sentements from the job at hand. Does it go unappreciated when you put together a 6 year retool plan. Yes. But, that is expected during a 10 year rebuild. That overreaction. "

NBA is shrugging its shoulders I guess.
We all know this 'tampering' happens a ton behind closed doors . . .

Just read where AD wants Legacy over money! He wants championships or the ability to compete for them, he wants the youngsters that are fans of his to see him as a champion!
Guess I cant blame the guy!
He's a Laker, had dinner with Lebron last night after game. I mean, who wouldn't want to play with the best baller in the world and you may be the missing piece.

If there was ever a time to kill free agency it is now. It was like unions in the beginning it was great, wages went up, benefits got handed out business flourished and it was not the Celtics and the lakers every year. Now it is the players getting the top ten players and putting them on 3 or 4 teams while jacking up ticket prices in that city. You cant really root for a player anymore that plays for you chances are he will be playing for someone else next year.

The NBA allows this drama because it loves this drama and attention. It is not a case of “let them get away with it”. People have to get that out of their head. They want this and like it. Starting with Adam Silver. He loves this. He’s a good commissioner but he literally wants the jimmy butler in MN drama, the lebron to LA, the AD drama, all of it.

Honestly, I don't see why players can't say whatever they want. I think it is actually crazy GMs would complain about this. Or a better word would be pathetic: I think it is actual pathetic GMs are complaining about this.

If you were the Blazers GM and Damian Lillard was on your roster, and someone like Lebron James started recruiting him it wouldn’t bother you?

No. You can't control everything. This goes on everywhere. I've recruited my friends to work where i do. Many players are friends and this shit has been going on for awhile.

Two players should be able to go to dinner and say whatever they want about playing together. It's happened at Team USA camps.

The question was would it bother you. And whoever you took them from were bothered. Unless they were shitty employees. And were those friends under a contract with their employer? Probably not. If they were they probably violated the contract. Going to dinner? Sure. And I think it’s hard to compare NBA players to the rest of us in normal jobs. You have 14 guys who make a shit ton of money who are under contract with a team. Nobody should be tampering with anyone.

In the end it's always the large markets that fuck the small markets in the ass anyway.

Furthermore, the entire reason they make so much money is because of how hard their skill set is to replace. The tougher it is to gain entry into an occupation, the better it pays, generally. If your buddy gets hired away by another company, chances are a thousand other guys can do just as good of a job by next week.

Eh, idk about that. The skill level is so volatile in highly technical jobs.

Lakers will piss in New Oeleans pocket and then tell then it's "just raining." Nothing new here. That's the NBA for you. Fuck the underdog.

Read up on labor economics.
Lol. Textbooks don't teach you everything bruh. I'm well aware of labor economics. I have 2 bachelor's degrees in business related subjects. I'm telling you, technical skillsets can be very volatile. The lack of tax professionals that actually know what they are doing is terrifying, for example.

Is that a skill as valuable as playing basketball? Well, no. But the likelihood of picking someone off the streets that knows everything just as well is not as good as you would think.

I disagree. Professional athletes while is a skillset is still part of the entertainment industry along with actors, musicians and artists. Load up a 747 full of everyone in the entertainment industry all the big names and it crashes tragic though it might be. Outside of their families and agents no ones life is really affected. Fill that same plane up with farmers, ranchers, CEO's of large companies, mechanics and welders and crash that same plane and you will see food prices rise, stock market drop, oil prices rise and a lot of people late for work. All the while no one will really mourn them but their families the whole world will be affected. Within 2 years the entertainment industry will have all the replacements in play on the first jet. On the second plane it takes many years to replace those skill levels
