After the Tanaka signing the Yankees are at 194M + estimated benifits (whatever that is) of $11,500.000 = a total of $206,500.000.

So much for the $189M. But we all knew that wasn't very realistic anyway.
 
I do not care anymore what the rest of the baseball/sports world thinks
about Yankee Empire.... hope they keep spending.

I'm with you Cage, it wasn't like 6 or 7 other teams weren't willing to give Tanaka a boatload of money. Spending is just part of the Yankees DNA and they will. I still think Drew is in play, it makes to much sense.
 
What was the impetus of the 189 cap in the first place? I mean, I know the ramifications in MLB wrt Luxury tax and such, but did Hal come down with that b/c he's tightening up the pursestrings? Cashman just trying to strategically avoid future problems?

It was a new level of penalties I believe for the luxury tax
 
...who was that awhile back who boasted about being an expert on the lux tax but didn't even know what the money was for?
 
I wish MLB would let cash man buy a minor league system that actually has players in it
 
The additional revenue from Asia will pay for the next 2+ years of LUX tax this year. From a biz perspective, signing Tanaka was a profit generating action. Considering the level he was scouted, bringing in Ichiro and getting Kuroda resigned, there was an underlying business strategy that was artfully executed here. $189M was a ruse, a distraction to occupy the pundits allowing the organization the room to operate.

It also helped to have the Dodgers executing an aggressive strategy, however I think its safe to say that the Steinbrenner's schooled the league.
 
...add to the fact that it is simply smart business to not let your true plans/intentions known. It's to the Yanx' advantage for other teams and players agents to believe the Yanx are on a budget.

I couldn't agree more, that is why when Cashman says we're all done on a large scale and just looking for pieces, what he is really saying is "Hey Boras" call me, but I have a limit, but my limit might be better than your current offers for Drew.

Yep, and I remember after cash man said that a few years ago out of nowhere texeira was signed.
 
So the Yankees aren't getting under 189 mil -

TWO QUESTIONS for all of you Mike (the weasel) Lupica juniors.

1) Is it YOUR money?
2) Do you REALLY give a flying sh!t whether or not the Yankees have the highest payroll if they put a very good Championship caliber team on the field YEAR after YEAR?

Now I'll tell you what the Yankees know and won't/can't tell "you"--

There's a very good chance they will be dropping more money from the payroll next year (and are "secretly" pulling for at least two of their latest first round draft picks to crack the lineup within two or three years from NOW) and these latest big contracts will be the last for the foreseeable future as they will work in farm hands to fill ALL OTHER roles not taken by current high salaried regulars.

Keep an eye on Nova, he has very good "stuff" and if he puts it all together, --- he could be a difference maker along with Tanaka.

There's a very fair chance the Yankees could have two of the very best pitchers in the league for the next few years.
You won't hear this from the negative creepy New York "media"... they're too busy trying to impress us with there so-called impartiality and "sophistication".

In (approx) 80% of the other baseball markets, the local media would be going GA GA over the possibilities of having two young pitchers with the capabilities of Nova and Tanaka.

WFAN would have a dozen show hosts tripping over each other drooling from the mouth. lmao

...so strange how some people (Gomes and other half-wits like him) like to point to how much money in yearly salaries the Yanx have added this off season, but they conveniently disregard how much money was freed from the 2013 payroll. Players who are no longer with the team accounted for roughly $95 Mil that came off the books...and the 2014 payroll is considerably lower than it was last year.
 
Didn't Gomes start a fight with the Yankees during a spring training game a few years ago when he was with Tamps (?)

The guy needs some SERIOUS chin music.
 
yeah, he did really start the fight. The fight had already started near 2B and Gomes came out of no where and blind sided Shelly Duncan
 
It's jealousy, The idiots a career 240 hitter & was NEVER good enough to make the big bucks.
