22nd pick in the draft Viktor Khryapa (vic-tor ka-RY-hap-pa)
Originally an early entry candidate for the 2003 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name from consideration. Often compared to Andrei Kirilenko of the Utah Jazz for his competitive nature and body type.
Career Highlights: Got a taste of top international competition when he earned a spot on the Russian National Team that competed in the 2002 World Championship in Indianapolis. The team?s youngest player, saw action in all eight games as a reserve, averaging 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and one assist in 10.8 minutes per game. Had previously been a member of the Russian Junior National Team and played in the European Junior Championships in both 2000 and 2002.
2003-04: In his second season with CSKA Moscow, averaged 6.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. Helped lead CSKA to the Euroleague Final Four in Tel Aviv. Scored 11 points in the consolation game against Montepaschi Siena. Teammates this season included fellow draft prospect Sergey Monya and former NBA players Victor Alexander and Mirsad Turkcan.
2002-03: In his first season for CSKA Moscow, made the most of limited minutes on a deep and experienced team. Playing about 20 minutes per game, averaged 6.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and just over one block per game. Teammates included Boston Celtics? 2002 draft pick Darius Songaila (Lithuania) of Wake Forest.
2001-02: In final season for Autodor Saratov, averaged 32.3 minutes, 13.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots. Led the league in steals and finished in the top 10 in the league in rebounding despite playing alongside league rebounding leader Kebu Stewart (UNLV).
2000-01: In his first full season with Autodor Saratov, quickly became a key player for the team. Named the Russian League?s Most Improved Player. Averaged 12.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots while shooting 56 percent from the field.
Strengths: A good athlete with quickness and leaping ability. Despite his lack of bulk and weight, he is a good rebounder and a noted shotblocker. Has also played some minutes at guard due to his quickness.
