I'd love to sign n trade Bayless to MIL for Sessions at maybe 3 yrs at 9-10 Mil. Sessions IS a PG, Bayless may never be one, sessions learns from Blake/Miller and takes over if he's able in a few years.

If we are going off the naked eye, Bayless looked great. He can get to the rim, he defends the pick and roll so our bigs don't have to switch, other defenders have to play him to drive meaning another wing probably has an extra foot of space to get off a shot because he is on the floor and he gets the entire team fired up when he is out there.

I could not disagree more. Yeah bayless gets to the rim, VS CRAPPY TEAMS THAT LET YOU. then when he plays a team that actually has a heartbeat on defense he drives to the basket with his head down and has complete TUNNEL vision and forces a shot either gets stuffed or is way off. I seen enough. This Zebra is not changing his stripes he is what he is. Trade him for a case of mirror pond.

But that's what you do Oden.

Is Disagree.

Man you trash Blake and then think that of Bayless. I can see why you dislike Nate . . . I think you would probably dislike all coaches since every coach would play Blake many more minutes than Bayless.

I don't see this greatness you are talking about . . .but I do like your optimism with Bayless.

PER this PER that. It doesn't really matter to me. Just watch the game you can tell who is doing the right things out there and who is making things happen. Batum is a great example of that. His value does not how up in the stat book. Bayless is a bust.

How can you say Bayless is a bust so quickly. End of game garbage minutes is no way to judge a player good or bad.

I have seen more then that. He is a bust for a lottery pick. BIG TIME. he's a undersized 2 guard who cant shoot. he's not seeing starting minutes on bad teams. If you know basketball you don't have to see much else. Just watch him play for 10 mins. he is an athlete with no bball iq. he will fit in great with the clippers next year.

I agree he is an undersized 2 guard, but I like his game. Instant offense off the bench. Now with the signing of Dre, his future with us is up in the air, but I think it is way too early to give up on a player with that much talent.

Bayless is good. He just needs a little time.

Yet more satisfaction of another thread where people mocked me and were wrong. It really never does get old.

What a bust he is, get him off my team, NOW!

For those of you out there that might be interested in a Jerryd Bayless wallpaper ... Since there was no game last night I made this:

I see Bayless' ceiling as Vinnie "microwave" Johnson. (ie - 3rd guard and important reserve on a contender)

Sadly, I don't believe it will be in Portland.

I was just thinking the same thing - i.e. Vinnie Johnson!

Bayless is an "impact" 2G without the size to be a starter at the 2. Also similar to Nate Robinson in this vein.

Who can we get from the Clippers?

:drumroll:

As we all know, Pritchard referred to Bayless as "Jarrett Jack on steroids". I think he's just straight up Jarrett Jack.

Pretty interesting link. If you expand the parameter to include the last entire decade, it only adds Damon (twice) and Van Exel (once), with only 11 total games.

Kind of surprised me how rare it has been for our team to have a player go for 30 and 7 assists. And it didn't happen once from 1999 to 2004. :O

Poor Jack. As much as I wanted him gone, the dude was all class. I have to tell you a story when I took my son to a Blazer game.

About 2 years ago, I bought three tickets to a courtside game against L.A. Lakers. We live in the Los Angeles area, so watching the Blazers is hard a the staples center. Anyways, we were on the court and my son had his "all star" Roy Jersey and brand new Roy sneaks. He was too embarrassed to ask for autographs, and him and I were kinda talking loudly. I was telling Chris (my son) hey you gotta man up and ask, they don't want some freaky "old guy" asking for autographs! Anyways, Jack overheard it and grabbed my son. He put his arm around his shoulder and walked him to center court. My son was like a deer in headlights. Anyways, Jack asked to sign the back of his Jersey and then told Roy he better sign Chris's Jersey cause he has better shoes than Roy.

So from that point on, I never ever want ill will towards Jack. He made my son love the Blazers, and especially Jack.

Roy has above average court vision and passing for a shooting guard. Bayless may have below average court vision and passing for a point guard. I'm not convinced that each player needs to be the platonic version of their position, so long as the "right amounts" of passing, scoring, rebounding and defense are there. In terms of court vision and passing, if Roy's above-average-ness at his position makes up for Bayless' below-average-ness at his, that seems like a fine model to work with.

I think distribution of "point guard" duties over both guards can work fine. Neither Bayless or Roy may be ideal point guards, but if they can both play-make to some extent, I'm willing to believe that that will be equivalent to the "traditional" model of a point guard who largely handles all the play-making duties and a shooting guard who doesn't do much distribution.

I don't think who specifically does what is the key. I think the key is that the team, overall, has all the things it needs. In an extreme case, if the team gets 10 RPG from its shooting guard and its power forward gets 4 RPG, I don't think that's a problem--all that matters is that the team gets all the rebounding it needs. In the case of the Blazers, I think the team will get all the passing it needs, as Bayless and Roy are probably at least average for NBA backcourts in terms of passing and Aldridge and Oden are probably above average for NBA front courts in terms of passing. Not having a classic point guard doesn't seem like a major issue.

As far as I'm concerned, the guard who plays alongside Roy would ideally have the following qualities:

1. Defends point guards well
2. Knocks down shots from the perimeter at a good clip
3. Slashes to the basket and finishes/draws fouls
4. Dishes to teammates when defense collapses on his drives

All of these things I believe Bayless is capable of. He has the tools and desire to be a good defender, he shot the ball well outside his sporadic playing-time rookie season, he showed an elite ability to get to the hoop and draw fouls even in his otherwise poor rookie season. I think he showed the passing ability in college and in summer league to find teammates off defensive attention he draws. He doesn't have the passing skill/court vision to initiate the offense on the wing or at the top of the key, but I don't think Portland needs that out of him.

QFT

Call me crazy, but I don't think he steps on the baseline or dribbles off of his foot enough to be Jarret Jack.

Unless we can find a stat detailing momentum killing turnovers/missed shots it would appear they are pretty close.

But that non-existant stat would weigh heavily in Bayless's favor.

I haven't seen a Blazer player more capable of sucking the energy out of a team like Jack did. His dribble off the back of his foot directly into LeBron's hands has to be one of the most horrific turnovers in Blazer history.

It really got so bad that I could predict when Jerret would make a game loosing mistake. I only had to wait until Portland made a comeback and got within 4 or so. Then Jarret would get the ball, put his head down and do something absurdly bad.

Until Bayless's end of game miscues cost Portland multiple games I would have to believe there really isn't much of a comparison.

Bayless > Jack and I don't think it is even close.

I am a JJack fan. I thought we would have done much better if we could ship Sergio instead of him. But, Bayless is faster, a more explosive scorer and has the tools to be a better defender.

I loved what Jarret did for us, I think he got the short end of the stick from the "Free Sergio" brigade, but Bayless is an upgrade. Simple as that.
