Kelly to the DL and Almonte called up. Ichiro still out with back pain. Beltran has bone spur in elbow and had cortisone shot. If does not work he will need in season surgery. No idea how long he would be out.
 
It just keeps getting better and better with this team.
 
At least the concern about Tex's wrist and Jete's ankle had subsided.
 
Well I can point to guys that are 50 and older and never broke, sprained or tore anything. And I can find a lot kids in their 20s with surgically repaired knees, shoulders, etc.

If there was a direct correlation between specific conditioning and age, do you really believe the Yanks and their $250M/HR investment would not be having this as a mandatory program? Too much randomness in the injury department to draw any quantitative conclusions.

But if it gives you a warm and fuzzy, knock yourself out.
 
If you have an old roster clearly injuries and durability would be a concern. There's no getting around that.

Do you expect to see a 38 year old put up the same numbers as he did when he was 26?
 
My experiences refute these assumptions. I am stronger in my 40s than I was in my 30s. I know lots of guys that took up marathons and triathlons after turning 40. This is hard core training on a daily basis. Age does have its toll, but for those that have worked out in their youth, the maintenance isn't that hard.

Injuries happen, if we had specific predictors, etc. than I'm pretty sure professional sports would be leading the revolution.

But you're just not using common sense when it comes to professional athletes. A 38 year old is certainly more likely than a 26 year to break down just from the many more years of games and wear and tear their body has taken on. Look at the more physical sports as to what happens to these guys.

...^^^ THIS !...I am in MUCH better shape now than 30 years ago...cardio and weight lifting every weekday has benefitted me greatly. Can I run faster?...no, but other than that, I'm better off...besides, that's why I have a a car.

Of course there are exceptions. Again the term MORE LIKELY is the argument. Oh the hell with it, I'll let you girls fight it out over & over & over.

Right. At 47, I'M teaching 20 year olds how to leg press 1000 lbs and not blow a hip, knee or ankle. With age comes experience, can't under value that.
Speed subsides, but power increases...we have 70 year olds benching 315, lol!

The point here is that the body is a machine, how you take care of it is likely the best preventative medicine.

...yup, the muscle is the ONLY known thing in the universe that becomes bigger and stronger the more it is used...and conversely becomes smaller and weaker the less it is used.

Lol! Look at the top career performers and than the top season performers. A lot of guys in the latter category didn't put up comparable careers because they got hurt along the way. Randomly...when you look at all the data you see that the trends just aren't pronounced when you look at a small sample set like say the 2014 Yankees roster.

Nolan Ryan was born January of 47. He pitched his last game in 93 at the young age of 43. Truly a freak of nature...(truly one INCREDIBLE FEAT).

Satchel Paige, born in 1906, pitched in his last game in 65, at the young age of 59.

Both, incredible freaks of nature.

I guess Rick, its not to late to go to Spring Training in Tampa next year...!

My BAD, Rick, you are right, Nolan's last game was at the Young AGE of 46.

Shit, I thought getting old, would not include me losing my basic Math Skills....oh no!
