His mom and sister apparently detained by immigration and sent back to France when they were trying to visit him in PDX.

Apparently was said on Talkin ball tonight.

Ouch!

Makes sense. Rich black people from France, where'd they get their money, must be Muslims with bombs. Rich whites from France, let them in.

I'm almost completely certain that Nic's mother is white.

But from a cryptic text I got from someone in PDX watching the show, apparently Nic said that there was a chance that she might have to spend a night in custody. WTF.

Yeah, if she's white they should have let her in the country.

Seriously, I'm not getting the meaning of your post. You think she's white but you got a text saying that she might spend the night in custody so that means she's not white?

Well it's a good thing she wasn't green! Because it could have gone sarcastically worse!

Me? I was responding to the post above mine in the first paragraph. I was passing along some more info with my second para.

Any details on why they were detained?

The mother and sister are experienced at travelling to Portland. At the start of his rookie year, they came to live here, and his sister went to high school here that year. They have a foundation to help the part of Africa that Nic's father was from, so I assume they have travelled there. So they aren't neophytes at visa requirements.

Too bad they can't sue for the verbal mistreatment, which is probably standard treatment of foreigners by the transportation service, but such a lawsuit would go nowhere, which is why they can do it.

Maybe she was trying to bring Nico some good fois gras, camembert, and saucisson. That's a non-non. :tsktsk:

You don't need a visa to visit the U.S. from France. Once you are here, you may need a visa of one type or other for an extended stay. Maybe they answered the questions 'wrong' and didn't have the corresponding visa.

Detainment by 'immigration' if it happened, qualifies as bullshit. And based on the shitty way TSA has treated me in the past, I expect they were assholes about it.

It'll work out.

I heard on The Game that she lied on her visa. I don't understand why she would do that, but that's what they said.

They do suck for the most part.

From that article above:
“I was so worried. My mom doesn't speak English well and they were cursing at her and threatening to put her in jail,” Batum told CSNNW.com. “I was checking my phone at halftime and there was nothing. I found out that they sent her and my sister back to France after the game.”

And Nic:
Thank for you support, and my mom and sister are ok. I hope they will be there soon

Ahhhh touche Mags, touche! Ce magnifique!

But on a serious note thats gotta be tough for Nico. Hope it works out ok.

Only way I could say one way or another is from personal experience. And something similar happened to me. I will tell you that nothing was more important than making sure my family was safe. Business wasn't even on my mind. My family was.
