Ugly times are ahead. From an Obama rally today...

“After eight years of Bush and McCain economics, the pie is shrinking, and what’s left of the pie has been eaten by millionaires and billionaires,” Obama declared. “Everyone here wants some pie.”

To that, the crowd struck up the chant, “We want pie! We want pie!”

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/10/21/obama-talks-tough-in-miami/

Some of us prefer to try and make our own pie instead of waiting for the sloppy seconds.

Let them eat cake.

Everybody likes pie.

Mmm...pie.

If the rich have money, it must be yours and mine. They couldn't have worked hard for it, or created new kinds of technology to earn it. They obviously stole it from us. That's why we have to get it back.

Do I have that about right?

Almost. They stole it from us Democrats. You don't get any, Shooter.

That's fine, because I don't want any. I'll keep on supporting myself instead of asking the government to take care of me.

Well, we're going to have to take your money, too. It's stolen.

I guess what is so suprising is that Obama really and truly believes this idea of turning the country into a socialist state. To punish acheivers and "redistribute" their money to others. The problem is, when his tax plan is laid out it calls for an increase in taxes for the low & middle class unless one falls into a tax break area (purchasing an alternative fuel vehicle...).

I wonder how this will end up. I mean, even with a democratic congress, many of his ideas aren't going to get anywhere. But what about the ones that do?

It's going to be an interesting presidency.

We want pie! We want pie!

I'll just sit here and laugh once the paychecks start to get smaller...or go away.

So should we keep things the way they are?

millions without health insurance

elders who can't pay for prescription medication

a broken educational system

record quarterly profits in the billions for oil companies . . . while US spends billions in Iraq and the disintegration of the middle class takes place right before our eyes?

I don't think Obama is the savior, but something has to change . . . this country is messed up right now.

Oh, come on. Enough with this socialist state nonsense. If the top tax rate goes up a few percentage points it does not change the country from capitalist to socialist.

Or if it does, then the US was socialist for most of the past century. Our tax rates are historically low right now. Your pop and grandpop paid higher tax rates (if they were high-income earners).

Socialist... Just because Sarah Palin says something, it doesn't make it true, you know.

Some people go to rallies during a work day to listen to a charming man tell them he will give them pie.

Others work to make their own pie during the same time period, only to soon have a charming man give their pie to people who don't want to make their own.

LOL

Miss any talking point there? I work in health care and so does my wife, and if you go to the Burnside Clinic you will see that EVERYBODY gets healthcare, even if they smell like week-old pissed pants.

Well I encounter people on a weekly basis that are currently living without health care and don't get the medical attention they need. What's your point, you think health care isn't a problem in the US?

Check out the Oregonian today, one out of four families have health care for the adults but not children. There are some working Americans that can't even afford health care for their children.

BTW-your posts are all about talking points. This whole redistribution of wealth is a talking point. Just because it is a talking point doesn't mean it isn't relevant.

George W. McCain's economics is why this country is in the shitter. A majority of people in this country realizes this and want no part of the same damn administration. The polls speak for themselves. Is this country ready for Obama? In the words of Sarah Palin: You-betcha.

Health insurance =/ health care. As for "talking points", Obama said "spread the wealth", not me.

What choices did people make instead of having health insurance? Do people go untreated or do hospitals just get go unpaid?

elders who can't pay for prescription medication

Again, what choices do the elderly make instead of paying for their medicine? If you're sick, it's not unreasonable to ask people to lower their standard of living to pay for getting better.

a broken educational system

Hmmm, who broke it? Will more money solve the problem?

record quarterly profits in the billions for oil companies

Who owns the oil companies? Answer: pretty much anyone who has a 401k. Also, when they post losses, should we be outraged as well? Their profits are a percentage of their raw materials. When the price of oil increases, their profit increases. If you have a beef with oil company profits, talk to OPEC.

. . . while US spends billions in Iraq

Yes, war sucks. What's your exit strategy?

and the disintegration of the middle class takes place right before our eyes?

Americans have a higher standard of living now than at any other time in history. Even the poorest among us have heat, electricity, television and microwave ovens.

I don't think Obama is the savior, but something has to change . . . this country is messed up right now.

How is he going to fix it?

So, Democrats aren't Progressives, they're Regressives?

Do you want to know the real issue with Bush economics (aka the economics of compassionate conservatism)? Government became too big. The real answer to changing Bushonomics is to reduce the size and scope of government. Obama is just another level of Bushonomics with higher taxes.

Sounds like an Obama supporter to me! ;)

You only just realized?

Of course, in four years, you will be an Obama supporter too. Or else, you'll be in jail. :)

So, Democrats aren't Progressives, they're Regressives?

Yep. Republicans want to go back to the 50s, Democrats want to go back to the 60s.

Democrats want to go back to when they opposed the Civil Rights Act, with Al Gore's dad leading the way?

Interesting...

And felt proud to do so. It's what made America work.

These Republicans today are a bunch of pampered, whining sissies, who don't care about their neighbors and fellow Americans at all.

It's all "I, I, ME, ME, MINE!"

Treasonous, IMO.
