Just got back from the press preview of Solo. While I love the Star Wars franchise I was skeptical going to see this movie. Wasn't impressed with the actor they cast to play Han and the stories about director problems made me think they think to movie was going to be a trainwreck.

Nope. This movie was a blast! Fast paced, lots of action, the casting was perfect, fun fun movie! Ron Howard saved this movie and he even got his brother a cameo.

Solid 8.5/10.

I do look forward to reading what @EL PRESIDENTE says about it, 3/10, sucked, the shade of white they used for the stormtroopers wasn't true to the original white Lucas used.

Everything I've seen previewing this I've liked...I think they picked the right kid to play Solo

Watching the previews I didn't think they did at all. But he did a very good job of making the role his own while staying true to the Star Wars mythology. Looking forward to the sequel.

I'm going to see it, and I'm sure it will be fine, but I still completely disagree with them making this movie when there are sooooooo many movies that they could have made without trying to recast one of the most iconic characters who was played by one of the best actors ever.

And they didn't even go for a young Solo. It's supposed to only be like 5 or 6 years before A New Hope.

The fans want a Kenobi film. Ewan is the perfect age for a film. That should have been a higher priority.

Also Lawrence Kasdan wrote the script.

Maybe I am misreading this forum, but if I can recap what I learned - The President had intercourse with El Presidente and tried to hush it via a shady lawyer and a one time payment he did not sign on?

Yes and now @EL PRESIDENTE spends his nights dancing on ping pong tables for tips in the basement of a pizza parlor.

Im with Nate on this one, this should've been a Kenobi film. Especially since I think we've accepted Ewan Mcgregor as Obi Wan, and it wouldn't be some unknown actor who looks nothing like (a young) Obi Wan, like in this one.

Last Jedi has still left a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm still not sure if I'm going to see it. I've had friends see it and say it was awesome, and I've had friends who say it was stupid with a capital "fuck this shit".

As much as I want a Kenobi film, especially if he's helping a young Luke Skywalker, I fear they'll fuck that up too. And probably do a Boba Fett movie (I just don't get the love affair fans have with him).

It's gotten so bad that the Prequels are no longer the worst movies made. JJ Abrams did it right (even if it was basically a reboot of SW:NH), Johnson took a huge dump on film.

I'm really dragging my feet going to see it. But Kasdan's involvement gives me hope it will be okay. It took me awhile to warm up to Force Awakens, but after repeated viewings, it's so much better made than Last Jedi due to the faster pacing. Kasdan, comes from the less is more writing approach, and I attribute the crisp pace of Force Awakens largely to him. He's probably the best dialogue writer in the Star Wars franchise, also a notable difference between TFA vs TLJ. Given Han Solo is his favorite character, at worst I assume Solo will still be a entertaining. I have to agree with others, I'm not very impressed with the casting. The guy picked, is a little too soft from what I've seen in previews.

Star Wars has turned into the DC Comics of Sci-Fi movies, instead of being the Marvel of Sci-Fi movies.

So much potential, but so much let down.

For example, if you watch a MU movie, it has purpose, it has a special feel to it. It feels big time.

If you watch DC movies (or now Star Wars, post FA), it feels like it was made by the C team.

DC totally dropped the ball with the new Batman choice. Christian Bale was great as Batman (though I'm not sure those movies have aged as well as they should). Ben Affleck though? Not sure how I'm supposed to take him seriously, or at least believe that he's a legit bad ass like Batman is supposed to be.

I thought Batman V Superman was idiotic. The justice league was so-so. Wonderwoman was OK, but it had weird choices for actors used.

The guy playing Han is like Ben Affleck as Batman. It's a choice that is a huge flaw. It doesn't help, like I said earlier, that they're coming off of the shit sandwich of Last Jedi.

Star Wars now feels like the NBA on ESPN/ABC, whereas it used to feel like the NBA on NBC.

This is a huge generalization on my part but......

The stories used to have to be good because it was harder to shoot amazing visual scenes of superheroes.

Now with cgi they can fill in holes in the stories with whole cities being destroyed.

Now it almost feels like they imagine the visuals and bend the story to fit.

Star Wars isn't for us old dinosaurs that are old enough to remember when the original movies came out or even if we were kids when Episode 1 came out. It's for little girls now.

The characters and the plot are just so weak. There's no substance. They're so concerned with SJW bullshit that they don't even care about the overall story or having a good arc.

Rey is such a weak character.... and it's sad because Star Wars has much much better female heroes. It's like they have their check boxes and they're making sure that they have all the politically correct points before they even give a shit about the story.

Nah man.... they envision the politically correct characters and try to write the story around that.
