Okay, maybe I'm getting a little sentimental, but it wasn't so long ago that we all had high hopes for this kid. Now he's been sent packing to Clipperland, where every washed-up and unlucky player lands. Just seems like a horrible letdown for him and a bad sign for his career.

He was a reach at #13. Good going, John Nash.

Too bad for him, funny for the rest of us.

That ring on his finger probably costs more than I'll make this year. Yeah, I feel real sad for him. What a tough life.

Yeah, I'm a little melancholy about it, because I genuinely liked the kid (it wavered a bit when he started carrying guns on planes.... sketchy). He was a player I wanted to see succeed, even if it wasn't with the Blazers.

Ah well.

Well I think he always wanted a big market team...here he goes..LA.

Wrong team, right city...

That smile pretty much captures the essence of being a Clipper. "Hey, I'm still in the NBA. Sort of."

Exactly. I'm with Shooter and mook on this one. I really wanted him to succeed as a Blazer and it just seems to be a tale of another overhyped NY PG. As for being a Clipper, it seems be the last stop before Euroleague for Bassy.

And my final thought on the matter is, "I wonder what kind of murse he brought to the press conference?"

I hate Sebastian Telfair on so many levels. What's truly sad is that none of them are really his fault at all.

Because of the drafting of Sebastian Telfair, we did not draft these players

2004
Al Jefferson
Josh Smith

2005
Chris Paul
Deron Williams

There are others, but yuck that was a shitty draft that affected not only that year, but the next as well

Bassy was a genuinely nice guy whenever I talked to him, so I wish him the best. At least he's still in the league.

yeah, John Nash the "genius" made me sad and confused quite often

but remember Ed, we just have to be patient and watch his master plan unfold :beatinto:

Yeah, I'm there, too. I liked Telfair quite a lot, I really wish he had panned out.

Yeah, but you can't blame Bassy for that. He just wanted to play.

He's got $millions$. I wish him luck, but I dont feel sorry for him or sad at all.

It wasn't that long ago that Bassy was being investigated for putting a hit on somebody in NY. I fail to see why anybody should be feeling sorry for this guy.

Ah well.

I agree, although carrying a gun on a team plane won't make me waver on him. I still hold out hope for him, although going to the Clippers hurts, and I really wonder what would have happened if he had played for Rick Pitino and Louisville like he was going to do.

It all worked out for the best. I don't like Josh Smith. I like LMA more than Jefferson, and Williams and Paul were so good who knows if we end up with Greg and Roy if we drafted them. Just like Larue over McAdoo. Once the "butterly effect" starts you never know how different things might have been.

That's vomit inducing. Thanks for the reminder. :banghead:

I still maintain that John Nash's genius got us where we are today... sort of like Hirohito's plan to bring Japan to economic superpower status. Sure, it took the death of millions of Japanese citizens and the nuking of two of their major cities, but forty years later look at what Japan became!

If not for their staggering losses in World War II, who knows if they would have reached such heights.

He's a good kid and I wish him luck. We got Brandon Roy out of him so it worked out.

I was 100% against trading him to Boston for the #7 and Roy.

I no longer deserve to have an opinion. :sigh:

You too? Now I don't feel so alone.

Definitely a big mistake on my part, but then I had just endured one of the worst general managers any team I've rooted for has ever had, so my excuse is that I expected trades to be disasters...yeah, that'll do nicely.

My bias is of the opposite kind---I'd rather try to turn a youngish-but-no-quite-good yet player into a high lotto pick anytime. There's a lot of research showing that after #7, you're really just in a crapshoot in terms of drafting players and having them develop. But from 1-7, you can get some really good talent. Which is why I would've given a lot for WAS's #5 pick. Which is why I'd give Outlaw up for a MEM #1 yesterday.

Additionally, while I think that not having any veterans is bad, I'd rather have, say, Pendergraph than Ike Diogu. (Well technically, DeJuan Blair rather than Ike Diogu, but I digress :) ). I'd rather have Kopo as the 12th man than, say, Brevin Knight or Earl Watson. And that colors a lot of my trade analysis.

I was so psyched about that trade... and then disappointed when we took Foye. And then elated that we got Roy.

I didn't like Roy at #4 (which, clearly would have been a reasonable pick, but a mistake relative to what we ended up doing) but I was delighted when we were able to get him for Foye.

Technially, we traded Telfair and Ratlif (last year of deal), for the #7 and Raef (2 years of big money). Looked at simply in those terms, the "deal" doesn't look anywhere near as good. A hot, young point guard prospect and an ending contract for a #7 pick in a 4 player draft (as it was labeled) and a bad contract. Doesn't sound great when you describe it that way. Thus, I am not surprised a lot of fans were not happy.

That come draft time, the Blazers managed turn that #7 pick and cash considerations into Brandon Roy was lovely.

We fans have shortened these transactions to: Telfair for Roy. That is simply not true.

And to your point: Once I found out we traded Telfair, I was happy. I was never a fan and never became very emotionally invested in him as a Blazer. I wanted him to succeed. But, when he didn't, I didn't feel much about it other than wanting to move on.

Once I realized we ended up with Brandon Roy out of the deal, I was thrilled. I thought we were getting the next Michael Finley. Heh. Shows what I know.

On a less goofy note, I still believe Nash was brought in to slash and burn, and to be the bad guy. He did that admirably, and they got rid of him for a better GM in the nick of time.

He actually sucked even at that. He didn't get a single prospect for Rasheed Wallace. He got nothing for Bonzi Wells. He signed Theo to an EXTENSION, which was inexplicable to me even at the time.

He spent tens of millions of dollars on SAR and Theo alone that did the team almost no good on the floor.

I was describing my reaction at the end of the day, when it essentially was Telfair for Roy, plus two extra years of a bad contract. Basically, I thought that Roy was destined to be a solid starter, above average in all areas of his game, but certainly not the star that Telfair was sure to become.

Oh Jesus, I forgot about that. Forget what I said; Nash was a buffoon.
