uneral plans were pending today for lyricist Gerry Goffin, who penned some of the sixties’ biggest hits, some written together with his then wife, Carole King.
Goffin died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles Thursday, his wife, Michele, announced. He was 75.
King and Goffin wrote more than 50 top-40 hits, including “A Natural Woman,” “Take Good Care of My Baby,” “Up on the Roof,” and the smash hits “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and “The Loco-Motion.”
“His words expressed what so many people were feeling but didn’t know how to say,” King in a statement.
Born on Feb. 11, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Goffin was a chemistry major at Queens College when he met fellow student and aspiring songwriter King. They married in August 1959 and divorced in 1968.
Goffin and King were admitted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
