The latest Internet speculation ties the Bobcats to the Portland Trail Blazers, in a scenario that would swap Gerald Wallace and Sean May for Nicolas Batum and Raef LaFrentz's expiring contract.

However, a source familiar with the situation says the Blazers aren't receptive to dealing Batum and the Bobcats wouldn't give up Wallace primarily to reduce future payroll.

Batum is the hold up? I really hope that's inaccurate because he's extremely expendable.

I think maybe KP has 10 players he would like to keep for the long haul. And I think he knows he needs help for two years while a few of them develop. So I think all these SF's we have discussed intrigue him, but he is hoping that REC and a mixure of the other 4-5 players + draft picks can get it done. It may not be enough in the end.

Where have I read this before? Oh right, KP doesn't want to give up anyone because he loves them all too much. Eventually all of this young talent and not getting rid of some to get something will come back and bite him in the ass.

Good job KP. No way do you give up Batum at this point. He's a one of a kind player.

Then why the fuck are people comparing him to Prince?

This irritates me, if Batum is what is holding up a deal, I'm going to be seriously pissed.

Horrifying if Pritchard is married to that many players long-term. I sincerely doubt it, since it would be insane. That's almost the entire active roster. There's no way he believes that Frye and Diogu can be moved but everyone else is locked in for the next five or ten years.

I won't believe anything I read online. KP is so good at smoke screens. You don't think KP could tell someone like quick or canzano to put the word out about something that is completely and utterly a lie?

Wait and see!

If this is true, I would agree with KP's thought process.

I don't blame him, as I wouldn't give up Batum for anything short of a Butler caliber player in return, Crash isn't at that level yet.
RLEC, Webster, Sergio + 1st is about as steep as I would go for Crash

I heard KP say a couple of time that the 1st 2 priorities he wants out of a SF is 1) defense 2) 3 pt shooting to space the floor for Oden, Aldridge, and Roy's game in the paint.

Wallace has the defensive skill set, but his 3 pt. shooting is pretty poor. 26% this season. 29% career.

Batum RIGHT NOW is shooting 34% from 3. As a 19 year old.

Today, Nick Batum does more of what KP and Nate consider a priority at the SF position than Wallace does.

Who knows. Batum is light years ahead of where Prince was defensively at 19.

IMO Batum is the best defensive 19 year old in the history of the game. (non-center)

Pritchard is playing mind games. Don't worry, we still have until 12:00 PM on the 19th :).

OK that was a little Tongue n Cheek to get a few people riled up. But yeah I think LEC plus #1 pick, and Frye, or Ike can get it done.

But i also personally would move Batum if it meant getting a Butler for the next 3-4 years.

Well it seems like we could have Crash for very cheap if we would take on Nazr's deal, which is only 2 additional years and with Joel and Greg being prone to getting banged up, is that such a bad 3rd stringer to have?

Except Aldridge doesn't have much of an inside game. He could, but like Rasheed Wallace, and Clifford Robinson before him, he's too in love with the jump shot. Fine, let LaPussy take all the jump shots he wants, and let's get a SF who can attack the rim. This team already has way too many jump shooters. Foolish to pass up on a player like Wallace because of the idea that we need a SF who will stand behind the 3pt line and jack up 3s. If that's what we want, we already have that player in Webster.

if it was bayless or batum i'd give up bayless at this point.

That may be a bit of an overstatement...

But Batum was the only guy on the Blazers roster who could slow down Nate Robinson the other night.

We've had a problem with keeping little waterbug PGs like KryptoNate and Speedy Claxton from penetrating for a couple of years now. KryptoNate torched us for his career high 40+ points last year.

The last game the Knicks played against us, he was torching Sergio and Bayless off the bench again when in the 4th quarter finally McMillan brought Batum in down the stretch and put Batum on KryptoNate. Batum finally slowed him down a little. Batum stayed in the game defending Robinson until about 30 secs. left.

I don't believe a single thing any "source" says from here until Thursday.

I wish someone would be interested in taking webster in a deal. travis is a better back up playing both the 3&4. i don't think you move batum and even if he becomes a backup to whomever we might pick up he is a specialty lockdown defender, and he's good now and he'll get even better. i do like the idea of bringing in a 3 that will attack the basket. get easy points and get to the foul line. especially if we deal sergio, but bayless is pretty good at this too. i think wallace was that guy, but it seems like a steep offer at this point. In KP we trust. Hasn't made a bad decision yet.

Webster can't pass a medical right now. Tough to trade a player who can't trade a player who can't pass a medical.

As for Webs, lots of teams are asking about him. He's been slow to return, but he was poised for a monster year before he hurt his foot.

But possible, I believe. The other team can waive the requirement that the player pass a physical. That rule is there to protect the team, but I think they can waive it if they're acquiring a player with a known injury.
