Considering that at one point the US had three "air forces" so to speak, with Naval Air, Army Air and Marine Air that they were in a way combined in 1947.

One could simply take all of the inter continental missile, satellites and anything that went above the Earths atmosphere and combine those in one "Force", instead of over lapping that occures at this time.

Isn't NASA our "Space Force"

We could use more eyes watching out for near earth objects and extraterrestials

We should hire Elon Musk to be the chief of the Boring Force. We will sneak upon the terrorists with our boring machines and attack them from below when they least expect it. <insert Mr. Burns Excellent voice-over here>

A fruitless idea tbh.

The reality is that a Space Force would eat up a good portion of the budget and have very little to say for it. It doesn't add any element of warfare that can't already be accomplished with current military technology. The US Air Force and NASA currently have control over satellites, telescopes, and reconnaissance aircraft that already function in the domain that space would.

A "Star Wars Program", I understand. But a Space Force doesn't make sense to me.

Perhaps in the future, if some technological/scientific advancements are made that allow routine access to space, it would make sense to build a Space Force. But right now, it seems like a waste of resources.

thB2PBBMTI.jpg With Trump at the helm and Outer Space on his agenda, this is possible.

Trump is trying to turn his Space Force idea into a reality. Earlier this month when the Army Football team visited the white house, Trump gave a speech and mentioned his space force idea to a lot of laughs. Even if his idea had merit, the United States signed a treaty in 1967 vowing not to militarize space. I wonder how exactly in his mind the space force will work?
What mind? Are you assuming he has a mind?

About time.
I'm darn tired of the Kzintis burning our flag and stealing our whales. And the Morlocks sneaking in to rape our sheep and cattle. And you never know what the Grogs are really up to.

A look at Trump's Space Force

Oh, don't get me started on the Grogs

My helmet is yuuuge! The yuuuugest!

Unfortunately, as stupid and jingoistic as this sounds, it's probably needed:

How dare you try to bring something related to the subject matter into the conversation.

Do you not know that all threads are only for the same few people to bash the President with mostly the same tired old bull shit? Come on, man, do you not realize that the intent is to overwhelm anything reasonable to the point of killing the thread?

“My new national strategy for space recognizes that space is a war-fighting domain, just like the land, air and sea,” Trump said last month.

Yes, but what about underground? Don't we need a Grotto Guard?

And for really deep underground, a Core Corps?

So a government funded think tank on space war says we need more money for space war.

I would be shocked if they didn't say otherwise.
Which think tank? The Rand Corp. has always been excellent.
