Honestly i just was having this conversation on another thread. Stotts has got to liking what he has right now. They are actually pretty deep. They have only one, maybe two stars, but he has a full roster that has guys that have been with the team 2-3-4 years now. The system is in place and they are starting to know how to work within it. The defense will get better and the offense will gel even more. They have a couple different options on both sides of the court. They added a little nasty and some toughness. They kept the strength off the bench and added a little to it actually.

Thinking this team could have a better season this next year is not a stretch at all. To win a championship you have to have a very good team and a whole bunch of luck. Seeing this team make the second round or even the WCF would not be out of the question.

We're replacing Gerald, Kaman, and Brian Roberts with Evan Turner and Ezeli. And we have another year of development from our youngins.

That's gotta be a 10 win difference, right?
Yes i believe it would be about that. They also added Shabazz who can play.

Still don't have much in the way of low post scoring, unless you count pick and rolls. ET and Ezeli can play the pick and roll.

Playing as well as we played from Xmas on for an entire season is worth 8-10 wins. The improvement in player personnel is worth another 5-7...

My God it's Hanky and he's optimistic! Nice to see ya around and still kickin little guy (Surge from O-live daze)
Surge, good to talk man. Been a long time. Excit'd about this team, most depth we've had since 2000. Still not sold we have the right coach or enough fire power to make a serious run but I think olshey is good and will consolidate some talent for a big upgrade at some point. Should be a fun season.

Expecting a big step up this year from CJ. Predicting all star for both he and dame this year.
Me too; without the ability to double Dame or CJ because Turner can handle the ball and Plumlee can pass, teams will be hard pressed to stop Dame and CJ consistently for minutes at a time like last year. That benefits CJ more imho.

The real question we need to look at is does this roster;

Dame / Napier
CJ / Crabbe / Pat / Montero
Turner / Harkless / Layman
Aminu / Davis / Vonleh
Plumlee / Ezeli / Leonard

Compete and possibly beat these rosters?;

Curry / Livingston
Klay / Clark / McCaw
Iggy / Looney
Durant / West / McAdoo
Green / ZaZa / Jones

Parker / Patty / Murray / Arcidiacono
Green / Ginobili / Simmons
Kawhi / Anderson
LA / Duncan?
Gasol / Dedmon

CP3 / Rivers
Redick / Crawford / Wilcox
Johnson / Pierce
Griffin / Mbah / Brice
Jordan / Stone / Diallo

Conley / Baldwin / Munford
Allen / Adams / Wroten
Parsons / Carter
ZBO / Martin / Green
Gasol / Wright / Davis

Man, no nights off in the West

Top-four isn't a big stretch considering the Thunder were gutted by Durant's decision.

I don't think the Blazers currently can jump past the Warriors (obviously), the Spurs or the Clippers, barring a major injury to the Clippers. Anything else is up for grabs. I think they can compete with Memphis. IMO, Portland, Memphis and Utah will fight for the the 4-6 seeds.

It seems to me Harkless is be one of our largest wild cards. Seemed that in the playoffs his defense noticeably tilted the court in our favor whenever he was playing, whether it was the Clippers or the Warriors. Could be a game changer imo...

The Clippers bench is trash. They have no one good at SF and no one to back up Griffin and Jordan. Crawford can get his but Rivers isn't a good 7th man either. I think we were even with them last year and they got worse while we got better. I think we pass them up.

That is one of the few things (along with perimeter back-court defense) that keeps this team from being a contender. There is no one to create a mismatch anywhere inside of 20'. Just occasionally to have that option when outside shots aren't falling or when the refs are 'letting 'em play' would take a lot pressure off of the perimeter players.

Who did GS have as their post scorer? Hell, who did CLE have? Even their post threats in Lebron and Love were working from the perimeter.

I think you can give Ezeli a few touches down low, same with Noah, and the guy on our team who prolly has the best touch inside -- Meyers a few looks. I think we have enough

Do a lot of teams even rely on this method any more? Warriors sure don't, unless I'm mistaken. Also Aminu's cutting speed and instincts is routinely going to be a mismatch at the four. Also can't Turner back down pretty well?

Meyers has to add this to his game...if Meyers learned to play with his back to the basket and score in the paint..we'd really be able to hurt teams for doubling on our guards...Turner is an excellent alley oop passer which I'm excited about and Festus can dunk in traffic pretty well.

The Clippers' bench has been trash for years. I think the Clippers, when healthy, were significantly better than the Blazers but, obviously, they were missing Griffin for a big chunk of the regular season and then lost Paul and Griffin in the series against the Blazers.

I think the Blazers have narrowed the gap slightly, but I see the Blazers as a 50-win team and the Clippers as a 55-56 win team. A major injury to any of their main players could certainly give the Blazers a chance to overtake them.

A non-slow start might help.
