"The Minnesota Wild are aiming to improve their center depth. The Wild are offering their first round draft pick, and Matt Dumba or Jonas Brodin for Derek Stepan."

I'm doing that for Dumba. The big righty shot from the point we have been missing. Team that with 103 mph Graves on the left side, you have a PP finally capable of doing something. Then you move McDonagh to the Oilers for RNH and the 4th overall which I would think Edmonton has to do.

i dont think edmonton moves the 4th overall pick why would they? that alone should be enough of a price to pay for MCD if not OVERPAYMENT. but you want hopkins thrown in also? so the oilers are going to give you the former #1 pick and a #4 pick for MCD and the miles on him?

if they do offer that then the rangers are stupid for not taking it thats a home run for the rangers.

The 4th pick is not nearly worth enough by itself for a number 1 defenseman who is 26 and is on a great contract. It will take a lot more than that to get McDonagh.

i thought he was older then that to be honest so yeah 27 today isn't bad.


still thought that friendly cap hit is only for another 3 years? compared to hopkins very friendly 6 million for another 5 years.

a #4 pick is a pretty good value IMO. your never going to get a #1 for him regardless of whatever year it is. chances are teams picking #2/3 will be more then a veteran d man away from competing so i doubt you would be able to pry those picks away.

if im the rangers would i deal mcd for just the 4th? no i wouldn't because that doesn't help win now. but i think rnh plus a 4th is too much asking price. just think the oilers had to go through a season of sucking to land that #4 pick. who may or may not suck but chances are he will be there after 3 years. same can be said about mcd?

I tried doing a quick search to see what top 5 picks have yielded in the past trade-wise but could not find anything. Would be interesting to see what history says can be had for a top 5 pick, especially when another 1st rd pick is not involved and it's just players going from the acquiring team.

If you can get a top 15 pick, top 5 prospect and useful roster player id run with it. You wouldnt get the 4th pick though much less plus Hopkins. You can draft a dman who's younger and better for a young team. If that Stepan rumor is true that's very enticing.

If Stepan was 50% on draws, I don't trade him at all. Too valuable. His faceoffs kill this team. Which makes him a wing. We can replace a wing at his salary.

Demers is someone I've though might be a nice pickup assuming you can maybe trade Staal. I think they make Girardi or Klein available in the expansion draft next year. I can see Brassard left unprotected too.

No way they leave Brassard or Klein unprotected. They could trade Klein with that great contract and him being right handed for a crap load right now.

Im just wondering which forwards they would leave out there then. They need to be signed through 2018 and have played in a certain number of games in the past few years. Not Kreider, Lindberg or Miller. Nash?Fast?

I'm with the idea of moving him. Stepan is not a top two center...and definitely needs to move to the wing. He was a big part of the PK struggling cause he just lacks the agility to move quickly. A center needs to be one of your better skaters and skate 180 feet not 80 feet. Stepan can't keep up and makes no one around him better and has been pointed out he's awful in the circle. I get he's a "homegrown" guy but who cares ! He got paid to be a top performer and was awful this year and clearly lacks the top skill set to be a top 2 center. If he is back next season, you'll now it's the same old same old happening with this inept management group.

Yep. Only plus to keeping Stepan is he's right handed. The Rangers need a quick, and total rebuild. The team is slow. Overpaid now. Has no identity. Farm has little depth. Defense like it always has been is soft with almost no shooting ability from the point. Stepan for 15th and Dumba. McDonagh for 4th, Edmonton's second and Yakupov. Let's say they don't get RNH. Sign Yandle. I'd trade Nash or Hayes but I'm not sure where for a center. Let's say it's Nash. You now how a 4th line that can score some. If you draft Dubois at center you go with this line up. Either way. This is a better team the garbage that was out there last year.
