Steve Blake has the chicken pox.....

Calif. -- When looking ahead to Tuesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said that the Spurs have a much deeper team than the Lakers.

The bench disparity could be even bleaker for the Lakers after Steve Blake did not make it to shootaround on Tuesday because of an illness.

The team announced later Tuesday afternoon that Blake has chicken pox and would not play Tuesday; beyond that, he is out indefinitely.

Also, Matt Barnes has been added to the injury list with a sore right knee and a decision about his playing status would be made before the game.

Blake did not practice on Monday because of a fever. The back-up point guard is averaging four points and 2.2 assists in 20 minutes per game this season. Blake scored nine points and made all three of his 3-point attempts in his last game Sunday against Oklahoma City.

LMAO! 4 points / 2.2 assists! And the funny thing was Roy's Blanky had the starting nod over Miller just last season. So glad he is in Purple and Piss

To be fair, Derek Fisher is working on a 162-game streak of sub-10 PER, which makes him look like Chris Paul compared to Miller.

Yes but Fish has proven to be extremely valuable for the Lakers; especially knowing the triangle so well. Blanky is a really nice guy, loved Portland and doesn't have a big ego. He just isn't that good of a player. He is a poor man's Steve Kerr.

It's serious business to get the chicken pox at his age. I never got them and I live in fear of the time when why son does, because if he gives me the chicken pox, I'm fucked.

I know Blakey is now with the enemy, but I'll always fondly remember him and wish him a speedy and full recovery. Now if he happened to infect any other L*kers, I'd be cool with that.

yeah, at what point does it become "shingles"? My mother-in-law got that last year, and it messed up her world for a couple of weeks.

With the money you make you and your son only have to worry about getting pheasant pox.

Yeah, chicken pox in adult is no joke.

Funny, there's a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle who is a total Laker-lover and has hated the Blazers since at least the Drexler days. When Blake was the starting point guard he continually carped about how the Blazers won't get anywhere until they upgrade at that position. The ink was not dry on Blake's Laker contract when the same reporter started rhapsodizing over what a perfect fit and asset he was to LA.

I have always been told that Herpes Zoster (Shingles) is an outbreak from a previous Chicken Pox infection.

There is a Shingles vaccine available at most major pharmacies. I think it is a ~$200 shot. Now that I am "older" my doctor said I should get it.

I'm not a doctor. If I were you I would consult one about this vaccine. It might just be preventative against chicken pox. An internet search is probably in order :).

Thanks! Repped!

Mike_Bresnahan: Chicken pox update: Only three Lakers have never had it...Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum. They're kind of important people.

How hilarous would that be if they all came down with it.

Bynum's MRI just came in.......... they found chicken pox in his knee!

If he has chicken pox, he flat out can't play for awhile. Too contagious. That is a huge blow to their bench. Not that Blake is that good. It just means Brown has to play PG which is not great for them. I want the Lakers.

HOPE THEY ALL GET SICK AND GET SWEPT IN THE FIRST ROUND!

it would be kind of fun that the Celtics lose their ubuntu the same season the L*kers get Chicken Pox.
