I really wish someone would broadcast a game with no commentary, use the same on-screen graphics they currently do and the in-arena announcer. Kind of like Nascar (as much as I loathe Asscar) does with their in car camera, where you hear the pit crew instead of announcers.

Damn I just signed up for nba league pass broadband 30 minutes ago, I wouldn't mind paying extra for HD games through the blazers if league pass games are in SD.

I remember when the NFL experimented with no announcers. They didn't have mics onthe sidelines, but jsut played the game with graphics and no announcers.

Personally I hated it . . . thinking about it, maybe I need an announcer telling me what I just saw. :dunno:

I think I would dislike that with football because of the downtime in between plays.

Reading the link in the OP, it sounds like only one option is going to be available to you anyways. The Blazers stream will only be available to those within the KGW Broadcast area. Everyone else needs to use the NBA league pass broadband.

thanks for curing me of buyers remorse :smiley-thumbup:

Because of NBA broadcast requirements, the Trail Blazers are only allowed to stream the games within our broadcast territory, which includes Oregon and Southwest Washington. Fans outside of the broadcast territory are not subject to local blackouts, and thus can already access Trail Blazers games via NBA League Pass and NBA League Pass Broadband.
This is inaccurate. All of Washington is considered their broadcast territory.

I can tell you with 100% certainty (unless something changed in the last few days) that all of Washington is Blazer territory. I am subject to blackout in Olympia with League Pass. In fact, Chris_in_PDX also mentioned parts of Idaho and Northern California being included as well.

EDIT:

Here is Chris's quote:

That is correct. The Blazer Blackout radius includes all of Oregon and Washington and parts of Idaho and Northern California. That's the Blazers' "regional area".

Also, I had an interesting thought: if the Blazers stream their games against Comcast's wishes, can and will Comcast block the broadcast via their broadband service?

I'm pretty sure that is correct. Only Oregon and SW Washington is considered Trail Blazer broadcast territory.

KGW does not broadcast to most of Oregon or Washington. I got the impression this may go to ALL of oregon and washington.:dunno:

Well Kudos to the team for at least trying to find a workable solution while DirecTV and Comcast wage their pissing contest nationwide.

Bummer.

If the blazers come up empty handed and don't manage to strike a deal with Comcast to stream those games though, then this will still be considered a loss regardless of the kgw games.

Maybe the Blazers should just find better TV deals.

I'm sure if Comcast had told the Blazers during the initial negotiations for their broadcast rights, "we intend to leverage your product in an effort to extort money form other providers at a rate far above the normal rate" I somehow doubt the Blazers would have gotten on board with that -- despite the amount of money they are making on the deal; there is zero advantage for the team if a huge chunk of their market doesn't have access to their product.

God only knows how the current TV deal is structured and what kind of performance clauses are embedded in it (in terms of the Blazers being able to void it), but I'm guessing there's not a lot of wiggle room on the part of the Blazers.

How can it be a loss when you have more then you did yesterday?

Yes, while I don't personally hold animosity to the Blazers for the situation, their predicament is a result of their own actions whether due to monetary greed or incompetence during creation of a contract. A limited patch work solution does not put them in a position to be praised on their overall television broadcasting coverage; nevertheless this small action is a positive step, even if only very minor, towards a better product. So I suppose I can hope negotiations progress even more along this direction.

I have DISH. I moved 3 miles this summer. Before the 'move' I got the Portland locals including KGW. After the 'move' I can no longer get the Portland locals, only Eugene. So, no KGW for me. Does this mean I can't stream the KGW games? It sure sounds like it. :dunno:

I am really sick of this cluster fuck. I want to pay to watch the Blazers. Just fucking let me.

So have the Trail Blazers given up hope of a distribution deal between Comcast and the satellite companies?
No, we are still encouraging all parties to continue their negotiations in order to make all games available to all fans as quickly as possible.
Well then. They are 'encouraging' the parties to 'continue negotiations.' That's encouraging. And by 'encouraging,' I of course mean 'bullshit.'

Not a loss, but no gain yet either.

Since they didn't name a price yet (the only question I have), I assume they are calculating the maximum amount they can soak the fans for.

League pass is monstrously priced unless you follow many other teams in addition, there is no way I'd ever pay that much for a stream, and I get the feeling they are going to charge more per game than League Pass does.

Remember these are the same people who agreed to let Comcast hold the games hostage indefinitely for $10 Million. It's always all about the money with Paul Allen.

Yeah, I can see how the LeaguePass is alot, but I am such a hoop junkie I'm OK with it. I am very content watching a Utah vs Golden State game or Atlanta vs Chicago game as I am a Blazer game.

Then it's a reasonable benefit to you.

I only watch Blazers games, and League Pass blacks them out in Beautiful Central Oregon, despite the fact we can't get the games through Comcast or anyone else. So League Pass is worse than worthless to me. It's like a big FU from the NBA but mostly from the Blazers to me.

Every scmuck across 96% of the nation can watch my team play, but I cannot.

Maybe the financial model is broken again? :dunno:

From the FAQ:

Does everyone have access to the games online?

Fans outside of the broadcast territory are not subject to local blackouts, and thus can already access Trail Blazers games via NBA League Pass and NBA League Pass Broadband.

Perhaps Olympia is considered SW WA?

I just sent NBA.com an email ticket with my ip address, asking if I'd be blacked out of LP or LP broadband. I'll let you know what I hear.

(I'm in Kent, WA, btw)

You have been CC'ed on this action. The original email was sent to brianfromwa@comcast.net

Solution:
Dear Customer,

You will not be able to watch Portland or Utah games as both are blacked out for you.

Thanks,
Debbie
