Jim Rome is fronting Sublime? Santeria. Will. Be. EPIC.

Will the tribute band be called "Sublime with Clone"?

Should be 40 oz. to Bradley!

[video=youtube;Ve42pW3D9ts] kind of strange to see.

A bit like seeing AIC with no Layne Staley, except on smaller scale.

My first response to this is CASH GRAB, but I will admit that from the youtube clips I've watched/listened to this Rome kid isn't bad. And according to an LA Times article about the band both Eric and Bud are, and have been sober for a while now. That kind of excites me because when sober, or not completely smashed, Sublime was a tight band. Unfortunately they were almost always fucked up and their shows were extremely sloppy because of it. A sober Bud and Eric coupled with this Rome kid who sounds pretty good piques my interest. If they make it to Portland I will not miss it.

I'll be seeing them when they come to the mid-East Coast, no doubt about it.

A few years ago, there was a sublime tribute album...it was cool and all and I went to the concert, but the experience was a bit odd....not as "real" as you would imagine. Dunno, maybe because it was in hollyweird, I'd much rather the concert be in the LBC on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Fuck Hollywood.

When I first heard that Sublime with Rome was coming out I never heard of this Rome guy, then I heard the song "Lay Me Down" by the Dirty Heads feat. Rome and I just about lost my lunch. But after watching that YouTube clip I'm pretty impressed. I'd probably go to a live show if there wouldn't be so many douche bags there.

[video=youtube;y1XURXBIpsg] I dug this cover he did.

AIC's saving grace was that Jerry Cantrell wrote and sang a lot of the music. Obviously its a lot different with no Staley but its passable. Sublime with no Bradley Nowell? Its like if Nirvana got a replacement for Kurt Cobain. Dude seemed to be the mastermind of the band, wrote most material, played guitar, sang, defined the whole attitude/persona of the band, etc.

Granted, I think Bud and Eric did start up their own things (Long Beach Short Bus, etc.) when Brad died. I'm not upset that they're doing this but as a big Sublime fan I'm not that excited to go see it. I'm sure those guys could use some cash and the Sublime fanbase has grown tremendously and there's a lot of people who never got the chance to see them live who now can. I just think I wouldn't be very into it with a different dude singing, bunch of douche bags in the audience (though I'm sure I would no doubt be considered a douche to everyone else as well), etc. etc.

Yeah there's also a band called "Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime" that seems to be playing in Santa Cruz CONSTANTLY. Have no interest in seeing them but I find it fascinating that they can support themselves by being a tribute band to Sublime.

yeah, they were actually here a few weeks ago in Hermosa Beach. What can I say, people like listening to sublime songs.

This all reminds me of Journey being replaced by that filipino dude. haha.

Sublime has sold 17 million records in the U.S. alone according to this L.A. Times article. That figure kind of changed my mind with regards to the whole cash crab concept.

Gaugh, Wilson and Rome make a convincing case that the new enterprise isn't about money. Sublime's recordings have continued to sell in impressive numbers, and have totaled more than 17 million albums in the U.S. during the SoundScan era, a big chunk if not the majority since Nowell died, leaving Gaugh and Wilson financially well off.

He was the heart of Sublime. He gave them that hard edge. I always saw Eric as a pretty laidback guy so I can't see him making much noise during shows and "behind the scenes" shit. Bud and Brad seemed pretty lively though!

It's so sad that Bradley died before Sublime's biggest album was released. Also married and had a kid!

I still contend it's one of the biggest all time tragedies in American rock history. Brad was flat out born to be in Sublime, and was flat out genius. I was pretty devastated when he passed. This whole "reunion" thing is opening some old wounds, but I'm behind it. As long as I continue to believe they're doing it for the right reasons.

Yeah, I hope they actually make music instead of doing covers of Bradley's tracks.

I liked one of the Long Beach Dub All Stars "Right Back" but not their second album as much.

Trailer Ras!

American Rock History = Death at an early age. Most of the greatest rockers were high as hell on drugs, and guess what they died. Tragic yes, but also predictable

RIP Brad, Jimmy, Elvis, Michael

I understand what you're saying, but the difference between Brad and the others is brad died days after their quintessential album was released. He never reaped the rewards of his genius, but the thought of him actually living the high life is almost equally as frightening. In all fairness, he probably would have OD'd once he hit the pinnacle of his fame and fortune. But you never know....
