Unfortunately we aren't built for the long-term either... Honestly a swing for somebody like Giannis might be our best chance. As much as getting a Giannis would be a "sexy" move and bring big time headlines and press to the Blazers that seems like a move IF your a team 2 yrs or less from being a true championship contender. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this team is not that so I think bringing in someone in the vein of Murphy or someone like that who fits the timeline is a much better play then trying for a homerun player who will only get you maybe to / through the 2nd round.
I would rather have a Murphy and then maybe make another small trade like they did at the deadline to fill a hole or trade into the 1st round or early 2nd round pick this year and find a good / solid role player.
Deni is a 25 year old that still hasn't peaked and was a legit all star this season.Unfortunately we aren't built for the long-term either... Honestly a swing for somebody like Giannis might be our best chance.
Then blow it up if it fails and tank right this time.
We aren't built for anything 3 years from now (or 3 years after that) until Scoot and Sharpe pop like Deni and are able to stay healthy.Deni is a 25 year old that still hasn't peaked and was a legit all star this season.
Shaedon is better than Deni was the season before we got him and that's the season that Shaedon was just in.
Scoot is a season before that.
Tou has his best ball in front of him.
We aren't built for a move that gives us a window of the next three seasons, we're built for the three seasons after that.
Right, like I said, Shae is better than Deni was the season before we got him. Think of what he might be in three seasons... same with Scoot. Maybe next season or two seasons from now for both guys.We aren't built for anything 3 years from now until Scoot and Sharpe pop like Deni and are able to stay healthy.
And then they'll need to figure out how to shoot consistently...
All three could turn into Deni type all stars (highly unlikely), And we still probably wouldn't be able to hang with OKC or San Antonio.Right, like I said, Shae is better than Deni was the season before we got him. Scoot has shot more and more consistently and Shaedon was before missing time with his injury and then not really getting back into the rotation.
So what I'm preaching is patience instead of trading either of these two young studs just so we can rebuilding during their primes. Think about what the Wiz did with Deni or what we did with Jermaine. Both moves were shitty for the team trading away the young guy with a bunch of unrealized upside.
What’s your definition of a contender? How many contenders were there this year? What were they? Was Cleveland a contender? How about the Lakers? And the Nuggets?I know that not even you think that just adding Giannis makes us a contender. Just a few weeks ago you were talking about acquiring Giannis and Kawhi (which isn't realsitic given our assets) in order to actually contend.
We all know we're not one piece away from contention especially a piece you have to give up so much to get.
Above is a trade that makes sense sending Deni and Jerami for Giannis but I still don't think that makes us a contender next season.
To me you build by acquiring more young pieces that can grow with Scoot, Shaedon, Deni, Tou and Clingan. A small ball 5 is what needs to be added to that group and shooting. Dame will bring some of that shooting. Also I'm hoping that Scoot and Shaedon get better from three and add some of that shooting.
Just not willing to give up on any of our home grown talent at this point... maybe Clingan but I would want a good return.
Enough about Jermaine. He wasn’t that great and never played in the Finals. He was just a decent All Star. We wouldn’t have won a title if we kept him.Right, like I said, Shae is better than Deni was the season before we got him. Think of what he might be in three seasons... same with Scoot. And in the Jermaine trade, we got Dale Davis. Not Giannis!Right, like I said, Shae is better than Deni was the season before we got him. Think of what he might be in three seasons... same with Scoot. Maybe next season or two seasons from now for both guys.

I like Kawhi, he is a beast when wearing red and black jerseysI’d rather keep Deni if came down to him or Giannis. Also I’d prefer Bam over Giannis.
I get this feeling we are gonna end of with Kawhi or paying a shitload for Murphy. I don’t see Giannis extending here and I don’t think Brown will actually get traded. It will be Kawhi, AD, or Murphy imo.
Why would anyone prefer Bam over Giannis for the same offer lol? Giannis is an all time great. Bam is an 83 point footnote.I’d rather keep Deni if came down to him or Giannis. Also I’d prefer Bam over Giannis.

I believe we were interested in AD at the deadline. But Washington got him instead. Has there been any report that Washington is looking to move him? The AD ship has sailed.I’d rather keep Deni if came down to him or Giannis. Also I’d prefer Bam over Giannis.

Giannis is just a 31 year old taller Deni without the passing. I wouldn’t give up the farm for him. His game is built strictly on athleticism which doesn’t usually work out great as they age.And in the Jermaine trade, we got Dale Davis. Not Giannis!
lol. If my memory is accurate form 2001-2012(JOs career after Portland) the Blazers missed the playoffs at least 5 times and never made it past the 1st round. I think Jermaine woulda helped that decade just a bit.Enough about Jermaine. He wasn’t that great and never played in the Finals. He was just a decent All Star. We wouldn’t have won a title if we kept him.
I never said same offer. I said I like Bam better. I think he can give you the same game as Giannis or close to it and also be perfectly happy being a 3rd option. Why would anyone prefer Bam over Giannis for the same offer lol? Giannis is an all time great. Bam is an 83 point footnote.

Not enough to bitch about. Definitely not if we got Giannis instead of DD.lol. If my memory is accurate form 2001-2012(JOs career after Portland) the Blazers missed the playoffs at least 5 times and never made it past the 1st round. I think Jermaine woulda helped that decade just a bit.
Close to it?!??!I never said same offer. I said I like Bam better. I think he can give you the same game as Giannis or close to it and also be perfectly happy being a 3rd option.
PER this season:
Giannis: 32.6
Deni: 20.3
Giannis is Top 15 All Time. Deni isn’t Top 100. Giannis won MVP & DPOY in the same season. Deni will never do that. You haven’t watched much Giannis, I gather. And 31 isn’t old. He’s in his prime.
JO also led the Pacers to the best record in the NBA in 2004, lost to the eventual champs in the ECF.Enough about Jermaine. He wasn’t that great and never played in the Finals. He was just a decent All Star. We wouldn’t have won a title if we kept him.
He was healthy at the end of the year and they wouldn’t let him play. We wouldn’t be gutting the team. We’d be pushing in our chips for a difference maker. Would be the best player we’ve ever traded for over the last 56 years. We’d finally have a chance. After decades of never having That Guy. And 31 is not that old. KG was 31 when Boston traded for him. Even though “Al Jefferson was younger,” KG gave them two trips to the Finals and they won one. That’s what Giannis could do for us.Deni is like 6 years younger. Why are you taking this so personal. We don’t need to agree. There are valid reasons to not want to gut a team and max out a 31 year old player. He played 36 games this year btw.
What does this even meanNot enough to bitch about. Definitely not if we got Giannis instead of DD.
Yeah I get it. I just don’t think Giannis is gonna choose the rain over the sun and taxes over no taxes. He has been linked to Miami for years. He was just on Dragic’s podcast talking about how Florida cities make him feel the happiest. I will definitely support him if he comes here but I’m not holding my breath. He was healthy at the end of the year and they wouldn’t let him play. We wouldn’t be gutting the team. You said Jermaine would’ve helped and I was saying he wouldn’t have helped enough to make a difference. What does this even mean
That’s a different conversation. If you can get Giannis and he’ll re-sign, you do it. Bam isn’t better, Deni isn’t a DPOY candidate. You make the deal. As for weather, he could’ve left Milwaukee years ago. Milwaukee’s winters are brutal but he played there all these years because the basketball is the most important thing to him. Portland fans are allergic to success, I feel. Always against trading for real difference makers. The Lakers meanwhile trade for superstar after superstar and win titles. They’re fine with letting Ingram go for AD, for instance.Yeah I get it. I just don’t think Giannis is gonna choose the rain over the sun and taxes over no taxes.
