There was a message delivered by Connecticut coach Anne Donovan on Tuesday night.
Early in the game with Indiana, the Sun coach sat down young forwards Kelsey Bone and Chiney Ogwumike and let two wily undersized veterans, Kayla Pedersen and Kelsey Griffin, battle the Indiana post players.
“You’re sending two blue-collar players that, on paper, don’t look like they will get it done and they completely change the tone of that game,” Donovan said.
“They were just killing us in the post, going inside, inside, and we had these two undersized posts that just refused to give up any ground.”
Griffin and Pedersen changed the momentum, while Bone and Ogwumike changed the outcome as the Sun handed the Fever an 89-67 loss before 4,356 at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday.
