So, the NBA is no doubt preparing alternatives to start the playing games again. I know that they’re taking care of the big stuff, but what about the details? It would seem to me that when games resume, the NBA should implement some extra rules to reduce probability of transmission of COVID in game situations until such time as a vaccine becomes available. Here are a few suggestions. Feel free to add your own.
1. No pre-game ritual hand shakes or chest bumps.
2. No hand slaps or other contact with mascots or fans (if present).
3. No high fives allowed no matter how great the play.
4. No hand contact between free throw shooters and teammates.
5. Ball to be exchanged for disinfected one at each timeout and all players must sanitize hands.
6. Mandatory break from game for touching face. Shower required before returning to game.
7. Refs must use mechanical whistles to avoid saliva contamination.
8. Refs required to maintain social distancing from players. Players violating 6’ separation distance from refs are automatically ejected.
9. Chairs at team benches must maintain minimum 6’ of separation. Same in locker rooms, which means bench players will dress in hallway.
