OT Survival Kit

Seeing the disaster in Houston, what would you put in a survival kit. If you could only grab a backpack, what would need to be in it?

Thinking of making one, just have a backpack and a machete if there is an earthquake or some shit here in LA.

Water bottle with filtration system
Battery pack for phone
Extra Phone charger
Washable minimalist clothes that pack light
Solar power USB power charger
Dr. Bronners soap is pretty fucking money too.

Maybe time to hit REI and the Army surplus store!

Guns and ammo will get you everything you need after the event. And you don't even need to worry about what sort of an event it is.

It is a given that MREs and bottled water are essential. My Boogie bag contains two days food, Colt 1911 with three clips and spare box of ammo. Radio, battery powered with five spare batteries. One change of clothes. Small propane torch and three lighters. Still have a little room for evolving situations.

I have a go bag for disasters. It was actually fun to build. I'm at work, so this is off memory.
Headlamp w extra batteries
Manual crank light/radio/phone charger.
Pocket knife
Strong fixed blade knife
Multi tool
Camping wire toothed saw
Mylar sleeping bag
Mylar blanket
Iodine pills
Water purification system for camping
Sunglasses
Sewing kit
Multiple fire starters
Medications including Advil Tylenol Imodium tums and much more.
Toilet paper, wet wipes,
Small bottle Everclear for drinking or cleaning
Small bottle bourbon - drinking
Sun block
Soap
Toothpaste / brush
Camping stove and gas and camping pots (all tiny lightweight stuff
Mug, fork spoon
Paracord (rope)
Duct tape
Handgun/ammo
Food for three days (some camping lightweight and some in cans or bars I can just eat.) all expiration dates 1 plus years, I check in spring when I do my normal camping gear cleaning.
Wool socks, long underwear, lightweight raincoat and rain pants.
Boxers, shorts hat

I'd need a jetpack in mine...some good smoke...a pipe and a lighter...flashlight...swiss knife...nylon rope with fasteners...net..small fishing pole with a spinner reel...water purifying tablets..a water tight container...big ass jar of peanut butter....trail mix....flare gun with flares...a pan with a lid...a spoon...some miso paste...package of dried seaweed...cans of tuna..my wife would have the other stuff in her backpack.....a tree pruning saw or bow saw...small but sharp axe
and a magnifying glass and a tarp...
