Got this email....supposedly from yahoo, threatening to shut down my email if i don't send them the info they demand. Their address is not a yahoo address...

Well.. the email address originates from Portugal. WTF does your date of birth have to do with your email accounts. Ignore it.

My mom got the same thing on her Hotmail account a week ago and e-mailed me to ask what she should do about it. I told her to ignore it, it's pretty clearly phishing.

With the abundance of phishing scams out there, no legitimate company like Yahoo or Hotmail would request information so informally to prevent an active account from being shut down.
 
It looks totally legit to me. However, they accidentally forgot to ask for your social security and your credit card numbers with the expiration dates, so make sure to include those too.
 
I reported a few weeks ago a suspicious email allegedly from an attorney who represented me once.

When getting a suspicious email, a good rule is, instead of reply or clicking on links, go direct to the company's email or phone and contact them. This is about 99.9999999999% possibility fake.
