In a perfect world, the Dems would take over the House and the Senate this fall. Then they would sit with their thumbs up their asses (more so than usual) and leave Kennedy’s spot open until a Democrat (or even better, an Independent) wins the White House in ‘20. Or even ‘24 if another Republican becomes president. The Republicans would certainly have no right to complain....

Maybe McConnell will change the rules again to get another righty in and you can all crow about what a great win this is for Trump.
 
No. Justice Kennedy has already hired his staff for next year.

The Senator is in danger of losing his seat and figures this will fire up the evangelicals who love the pussy grabber, the few that are left. Help Republicans keep control of the Senate and get a justice who will overturn marriage equality.

I will believe it when Justice Kennedy issues an official statement.

Honestly, I think it's 70/30 on abortion vs. marriage equality. Most people like me (and there aren't a lot, assuredly) don't care what you do in your bedroom or who you do it with, but killing babies is another matter.

Edit: And I think you're right about a lot of smoke and no fire. When Kennedy says "I'm done", I'll believe it.

Don't get me wrong, that's no endorsement, but even with advanced age/neurological things going on RBG is pretty smart and devoted to liberal causes. She's not going to voluntarily step aside so Trump can put the conservative version of whatever the hell Sotomayor is on the bench to replace her. But if Biden's in place and the D's win a few seats here and there in the Senate, I could see her stepping down.
 
Biden will not survive the pedo rep he’s earned.

He would be wise to retire quietly.
