We actually were walking distance from some crazy cool places. Definitely advise taking a taxi at night. I wouldn't want to get mugged, which would be everywhere in Frisco at nighttime! HahahaThe Haight is on a couple of main bus routes and close to Golden Gate Park. There's a lot to do and see in the Haight, and it's reasonably convenient. That being said, I didn't enjoy my evenings as much when we stayed in the Haight. Being on the edge was cool cuz we could get out in the evening and easily get to transit without being hit up for hard drugs (buying and selling), but we weren't as fortunate the time we stayed right up in it.
Haight is such a beautiful place, much like a glorified Hawthorn District. A lot of culture and historical spots to see. The closer you go to the bay, the more expensive it gets. I think the Red Inn is roughly $130-150 a night. Staying at the Marriott in Union is like $280-350 a night.
