Talks between Houston and Nets about Carter are heating up again

Spurs window is closing, they should be making strong offers for Carter IMO. Duncan, Parker, Carter, and Manu could make it to the finals.

Well, if Houston can swing this . . .

The #4 seed may be a reach for us.

I sort of assumed McGrady was done for the year (I thought he needed microfracture surgery?) and the Rockets would slip out of the playoff hunt.

you know what they say...when you hear about a deal...its dead

Battier AND Artest? I'd like to see houston do that. Nobody to cover Roy any more when we play them.

BasX,
I get the fact that you like the Steelers and are excited about the Super Bowl victory, but do the rest of us really need a picture that big in your signature?

I keep meaning to change it. My bad.

I think we can and should get in on this. I don't think NJ want Battier as much as they want cap room. Here's my suggestion:

Portland gives up: RLEC
Portland gets: Battier, Landry and Najera.

New Jersey gets RLEC and Artest for Carter and Boone, who go to the Rockets, and Najera.

I know this trade is pretty unsexy, but I really think it would make us a lot better. I've always been a huge Battier fan and Landry would be a great backup PF. And Najera is also a very good defender.

Says the guy who upon hearing the refreshed Butler rumors this morning started screaming "SEE I WAS RIGHT I WAS RIGHT!!!!! SEE! LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME!!!! I WAS RIGHT!"

I like Battier, Landry is OK, and I'm completely neutral on Najera. I think it makes us a little better, but definitely doesn't push us into that "Title Contender" territory, especially since no consolidation of any kind has taken place and we're still stuck with a bench with too many players and not enough PT to develop/satisfy everyone (not to mention we have to clear two roster spots sending out one player and bringing 3 back).

Alternatively:

Portland sends out Outlaw, Channing and Ike for Battier and Landry
(Houston gets Carter (good film) and NJ gets Travis and Dorsey and a bunch of expirings)

This is worse because it costs us Outlaw, but better because we still have RLEC, and we have much less crowding. Not sure NJ goes for it now, though. And would Houston allow us to get Battier and Landry? But this way they keep Artest.

FWIW, Chris Meyers just mentioned this trade rumor on his show. Sounds like it might have some legs at the moment. I don't know why Thorn would want to take on Tracy *edited: Please don't use gender (male or female) as a pejorative* contract, though.

the only reason would be is it comes off the books for the summer of 2010.

Changed :)

The crazy version:

Portland gets McGrady, Battier and Dooling for all our out-of-rotation players plus Blake and Martell.
NJ drops $23M in salary, is only committed to Martell and Blake beyond this season.
Houston gets Carter, Najera, S. Williams and Trenton Hassell.

Okay, I'll stop now, I promise.

i don't see the rockets giving up artest, landry, and battier for vince. i'm fairly certain they'd push to keep one of artest/battier.

if the rockets could get the nets to agree to something like tmac and head for vince, najera, and hassell, i think houston would love to do that. and it lets the nets get rid of the last two years on vince and najera's deals along with getting a little savings next year with head expiring.

This is interesting to see if this could happen, Carter following Tmac again. And I don't think MIXUM has responded to any of my posts, ever.

If Rockets can keep Battier and Artest somehow, this is a steal for us. I would love to see Artest/Carter/Yao.

I still don't like Houston's chances at winning it all, but they'd certainly have enough stream to roll past us if we don't do anything.

Okay: so the Rockets want Carter. The Nets will give them Carter, BUT:
the Rockets want to offload McGrady and DON'T want to give up Landry. But the Nets would rather have Landry and don't want McGrady. There has GOT to be a way to get in this. This is like a sickness for me: please sedate me until after the deadline. But in the meantime, my latest tinkering produced THIS:

Portland gets Battier (the "no stats all-star") and McGrady (whom, I know a lot of people think is washed up, but if he's got ANYthing left, he's supremely talented, and also the player who Batum, who has only seen him this season, said is as hard to guard as anybody) and Dooling (who is a very good defender at PG) for:
RLEC, Blake, Outlaw, Channing and Ike.

(Houston gets Carter and our two PFs for Battier and McGrady; NJ gets RLEC, Outlaw, Blake (who would work well with Harris, I think))

I like it because I really like Battier, and I think McGrady has something left but even if he doesn't, his deal expires in 2010. Plus I like Dooling over Blake.
