Teams "inquiring" about JJ Hickson

Does anyone know of instances where a player rejected a deal with veto rights like this? I know Hickson likely wants to keep his bird rights. But at the same time, are he and his agent really expecting that they'll stay here, get to the offseason, and then come to Portland and say oh, Boston wants to offer us 8 a year, can you take back a chunk of their crap contracts so I can get that please? It's basically asking us to bend to the will of his offseason, and it seems really unlikely to me.

Not _exactly_ the same, but close enough: Dwight Howard.

it's not close at all. What does Dwight Howard have to do with Hickson's situation?

Teams wouldn't trade for him without assurance he'd sign with them. He effectively vetoed a deal to the Bulls for Deng and Noah, for example. No way the Bulls give that up on the gamble he'd sign with them in the summer. Especially since he's said he won't.

He didn't reject a trade, however. WHich is what I was asking. He wouldn't sign an extension with anyone.

I said it wasn't exactly the same. He effectively vetoed a deal to the Bulls. Orlando talked to him. Chicago talked to him. He said "no."

ok. great. thanks for that.

I think the Bird Rights are irrelevent. Supposedly, Portland wants to take another spin on the free agent wheel. Do do that, they have to not offer the QO, and the Bird Rights go poof. I agree that Hickson's biggest motivation should be the same as every other player in a contract year: stat padding. He should want to play somewhere he can pad his stats to the max. Portland is a good place for him to do that. Is there another similar destination?

Hickson is better than any of the rockets pfs right now. I think he would get time in houston and they get to try him out for half the year

Devean George vetoed a trade once.
