A kid got shot yesterday at my school. Here's the article from this morning:
QUOTE

Teen shot near Moreno Valley schoolMORENO VALLEY - A 15-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded Monday not far from Vista Del Lago High School in Moreno Valley, prompting police to cordon off the area as they investigated the attack.
The shooting was reported at 3:22 p.m., minutes after the school at Lasselle Street and John F. Kennedy Drive ended classes for the day. Dozens of students were in the area when the boy was shot, and officers reported large crowds milling about when they arrived on the scene. Authorities did not know if the victim attended the school, was a former student or had no connections to Vista Del Lago. A dozen Moreno Valley police cars descended on the shooting scene. Officers then sealed off the area and began to search for clues. A Riverside County sheriff's helicopter circled overhead. Police established a command post at John F. Kennedy and Thyme Place, a block west of the school, and detained several people. But many students on the ninth- through 12th-grade campus seemed unaffected. Students jogged on the campus track. Athletic squads continued working out. A witness, who declined to identify himself because he feared for his safety, said he saw the victim prone on the ground and bleeding from the head. Deputy Javier Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, said authorities are looking for one attacker who may have fled the area on foot. Rodriguez did not have a detailed description of the gunman or a possible motive for the shooting. He said the victim was shot at least once in the upper body and was in critical condition. While detectives sorted through evidence, family and friends of the injured youngster gathered at the Riverside County Regional Medical Center's emergency room, a few blocks away from where the shooting occurred. The hospital contains a trauma center where seriously injured patients typically are taken for treatment. One woman sobbed as they waited anxiously for word of the victim's condition. A man in the group, who was comforting the woman, declined to comment. Hospital spokeswoman Chaitae Hasty-Rodriguez could not be reached for comment. Rowena Lagrosa, Moreno Valley schools superintendent, said the district had not confirmed if the victim was a student. She said the district planned to send counselors to the campus today to help alleviate students' concerns. Vista Del Lago Principal Gil Oceguera said classes ended at 3:04 p.m. Malford Washington, 57, who has lived about four blocks from the scene for about eight years, said it was a good neighborhood with no drug problems or violence. "This is the first time I ever heard of somebody getting shot or stabbed," Washington said by phone. Resident Merrill Sargent, 52, said she became frightened when she heard helicopters and saw police with dogs search her neighborhood about a half a block from the scene. Sargent said the shooting surprised her because, aside from car accidents near the high school, she considered it a good neighborhood. Monday's shooting follows a string of violence that claimed the lives of minors. A 10-year-old boy was shot and killed at Kitching Street and Iris Avenue in December. In September, a 16-year-old girl was tortured, raped and killed. A 17-year-old was shot and killed while waiting in a car at Perham and Finley drives in July. A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed at a graduation party in the summer. It caused a lot of panic at my school this morning. Newsreporters were all over the streets before school started. They all left around 8 AM. Then they came back right after school and started interviewing "witnesses", but most of the students they interviewed were just random teens wanting to be on television.I didn't know about the shooting until this morning. A lot of parents were at the school, too.Cops were all over the place and a helicopter was flying above the school for most of the day. It was crazy. Also, the cops blocked all exits, except the main gates. They kept an eye on everyone! It took 20 f*ckin' minutes just to get out of school!
