Thomas remains a steady contributor at age 39, with his talents somewhat wasted on a Trail Blazers team that is attempting to rebuild (while still working at .500, during that rebuilding process). As a mentor, during that rebuilding process, Thomas is asked to lord over former lottery pick Hasheem Thabeet, now struggling on his third team. And, as Hoopsworld's Bill Ingram pointed out the other day, Thomas isn't exactly enthused with Thabeet's advancement:

Kurt Thomas sitting in locker room talking about making Hickson better. I asked him about Thabeet. "I can't make wine out of water."

This was what Don Rumsfeld would have called a "known known."

That's harsh...getting slammed by your teammate WHILE you're still teammates. Maybe his lack of effort is that bad and he deserves it, but still...

He's somehow gotten the reputation as the laziest player in the league in only 3 short years ... I'm guessing he earned it.

From the article it sounds like--assistant coach tells him to do something, he makes a joke out of doing the minimum. Sounds like he's amazed at all this money the fools pay him for a nonreal job. When he returns home to Africa, maybe next season he'll get bored and try to play in Europe.

you would think he would step it up a lil in his contract year, but no, what a waste

Thabeet can't be good, even if he tried. Have you seen his frame? He has a 8th grader upper body, with Yao's bottom. It's the most awkward body type I've seen. And have you seen him run or walk even? He looks like a fucking duck, waddling around the court. So he may have terrible work ethic and motivation, but his body is lame. It worked at a much slower pace of the NCAA, but not the NBA. It's too fast for him.
