That sucks for him.
Not as much as for his wife and kids. It was an unbelievably selfish act.
Of course, if his wife knew about the relationship for five months and tacitly condoned it while remaining married, she's not innocent in this fiasco either.

Innnocent of what? People can do whatever the fuck they want to do with their lives. If they want to live with an adulterer, that is their deal.
Amazing how many people in the republican party act like they are right wing christians, but amazingly enough one story after another keeps popping up from adultry, hiring hookers, using illegal painkillers, etc, but they just keep on truckin.![]()
I didn't know Sanford was a California voter.
So making mistakes and falling short proves that you really aren't a Christian? Really??Amazing how many people in the republican party act like they are right wing christians, but amazingly enough one story after another keeps popping up from adultry, hiring hookers, using illegal painkillers, etc, but they just keep on truckin.![]()
I'll need to see a picture of the mistress in question, then compare to his wife. If he flew to Argentina, she must have been BANGIN'.
A person need not be a moral paragon to have a successful career, including in politics. But if a politician builds a career on being a moral paragon, well, he/she'd better be able to walk the walk, by which I don't mean the Appalachian Trail.
Sanford built a career on so called "moral values" by which he means opposing family planning and any rights for gays. He opposed marriage equality, civil unions, adoption of children by gays and lesbians, saying children must have a father and mother, and opposed employment nondiscrimination while he walked away from his job with no notice to anyone. He spent Father's Day with his mistress. His Web site as late as yesterday blamed the speculation on his whereabouts on "liberal media" witch-hunting him!
This isn't just a weakness on sex as Shooter/Talkhard tried to spin it. It's not like he had a few too many and fell into bed with the wrong woman. He walked away from his job, which would get most people fired, used a state car, lied repeatedly about what he was doing, publicly humiliated his family. blamed the media, all while blaming gays for destroying marriage! It was not Iowa or Maine or Massachusetts that forced this hypocrite to screw around.
I can assure you gays and lesbians have zero tolerance for this assholes who scapegoat us but can't keep their dicks in their pants.
As a dad, I can't imagine what kind of douche you'd have to be to have this escapade in the middle of Father's Day. "Sorry kids, I can't be around to read your card and open a gift that's inevitably a crappy tie. I'm going to be in Argentina banging some lady who isn't your mom."
Great points, but I think you can have certain beliefs that you believe are good for the country . . . even if you don't personally live up to those standards.
One could think that cigarette and cigar smoking is bad and people shouldn't do it and still be addicted to smoking.
The power of sex . . . imagine that you are president of the US . . . worked your entire career to get there and now are considered the most powerful and influencial person on earth . . . and you risk all that for a blowjob?
I don't get it . . .
I don't see them as comparable, GO time. A smoker (aside from being actually addicted, and I have yet to see proof anyone is addicted to a mistress) who recognizes smoking is harmful and wants to stop pushing tobacco is going after the tobacco industry, they don't demonize smokers, or say smokers should be barred from public office while secretly puffing. And smokers who recognize tobacco is harmful don't build a career by trying to impose prohibition of far less harmful substances on others. Not sure if that sentence is clear but I think you see my point. It's not just that Sanford did not live up to his ideals. Anyone who takes marriage vows and does not live up to them is not living up to his/her ideals. It's that his career was built on saying people who stray are unfit for office, while he carried out a long (not one hour) affair and demonizing monogamous committed couples while practicing what is indeed truly harmful to marriage.
But then I suppose you could in a way call it traditional values, wife stays home with the kids while husband screws a discreetly hidden mistress.
...oh, and sorry about being a public figure so this has to play out on TV for all your friends to laugh at. And I'm sorry about flushing my livelyhood down the drain... gosh, I hadn't considered how we're going to be putting food on the table from here on out. But I really do like the tie... honest! As a dad, I can't imagine what kind of douche you'd have to be to have this escapade in the middle of Father's Day. "Sorry kids, I can't be around to read your card and open a gift that's inevitably a crappy tie. I'm going to be in Argentina banging some lady who isn't your mom."
Two words: John. Edwards. It's more than just Republicans.
I happen to believe marriage is a covenant. To stay together for political reasons debases what the institution of marriage should represent. I married late in life to make sure that every remaining wild oat in my bones was sown. When I took my vows, they meant something.
Hell if it weren't for AIDS there would probably be something similar to Roman Orgies going on in congress.

You nailed it. People are prone to their own weaknesses, no matter what their personal beliefs. I'll bet that every obese person in the world knows that they shouldn't stuff themselves with food, but they do it anyway.Great points, but I think you can have certain beliefs that you believe are good for the country . . . even if you don't personally live up to those standards.
One could think that cigarette and cigar smoking is bad and people shouldn't do it and still be addicted to smoking.
Thoughout history, sex indidents (1 hour of pleasure) have ruined the careers and families of bright and intelligent people. Clearly there is something driving these people that goes beyond their ability to think clearly and rationally.
Just because someone cheats on his wife doesn't mean he no longer believes in family values . . . he was just unable to overcome his own sexual desires . . . which happens to even people like the president of the US.
In other words, conservatives aim higher. As for John Edwards, I agree. It isn't only republican. But John is a liberal. Liberals dont' make themselves to live the "clean life" that a religious conservative does.
fall further/betray more peopleIn other words, conservatives aim higher.
