70 years in business, and it only took King anti-Midas a week to turn it to poo.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio restaurant mentioned last week by President Barack Obama as an indirect beneficiary of the government’s Chrysler bailout will go out of business Sunday after a more than 70-year history.

Co-owner Richard Lawrence of New Chet’s Restaurant in Toledo says business has fallen victim to the economy and the workplace smoking ban approved by Ohio voters in 2006. He told The Blade newspaper of Toledo on Wednesday that auto industry cutbacks also hurt.

Lawrence says he used to deliver up to $300 in food per week to Chrysler Group LLC’s Jeep plant in Toledo, but now that’s down to about $100 worth.

Obama visited the plant on Friday and told workers that without them, who would eat at Chet’s or patronize other local businesses?

“And this plant indirectly supports hundreds of other jobs right here in Toledo,” President Obama said to hundreds of workers in Chrysler’s Wrangler plant. ”After all, without you, who‘d eat at Chet’s or Inky‘s or Rudy’s?”

Celebrating this business's failure is pretty pathetic

Celebrating it? I think it sucks that a 70-year community staple has been destroyed by Obama's economy. They even managed to make it through the Carter years.

Well, they put up there with the economy, the smoking ban as a reason the business failed. Since it happened in 2006, I can only imagine we have bush to blame for that one?

Also, saying you think it sucks, and beginning the post with :ghoti: seems contradictory, I dunno.

Well, the :ghoti: suggests you're happy this happened. It looks like your reveling in other people's hardships

After 70 years, they might have socked enough $$$ to fund 5 years of negative cash flow.

Tho this is clearly embarrassing for O.

I would imagine Inky's and Rudy's are on their death watch.

I see no connection to Obama, other than he gave Chet another couple years he wouldn't have had, and has so far save Inky and Rudy.

I blame Ohio voters for passing the smoking ban.

Oregon's ban has had the same effect on bars, pubs and taverns.

Newt Gingrich once shook Obama's hand, and yesterday his campaign turned to stone.

I'm disappointed. I figured this would be a story about Paul Allen buying yet another business and driving it straight into the shitter.

I wonder how many businesses failed or went bankrupt during Bush's 8 years.

well, I guess I mean Clintons second 8 years, since if it was something bad, it wasn't Bush's doing.

No it's Obama's fault, because when the business was already failing, Obama gave them some money to help! And then they failed anyways! :MARIS61:

For someone convinced that we're all going to die a horrible, cancerous death from Fukushima Daiichi's meltdowns, here's something from the EPA:
While not an obvious source of radiation exposure, cigarette smokers inhale radioactive material that, over time, contribute large radiation dose to the lungs. Worse, smokers are not the only ones affected by the radiation in cigarettes. Second-hand can be just as harmful to nearby non-smokers.

Naturally-occurring radioactive minerals accumulate on the sticky surfaces of tobacco leaves as the plant grows, and these minerals remain on the leaves throughout the manufacturing process. Additionally, the use of the phosphate fertilizer Apatite – which contains radium, lead-210, and polonium-210 – also increases the amount of radiation in tobacco plants.

The radium that accumulates on the tobacco leaves predominantly emits alpha and gamma radiation. The lead-210 and polonium-210 particles lodge in the smoker’s lungs, where they accumulate for decades (lead-210 has a half-life of 22.3 years). The tar from tobacco builds up on the bronchioles and traps even more of these particles. Over time, these particles can damage the lungs and lead to lung cancer.

I'll let you guess which amount of radiation is higher.
