INRIX. Ever heard of it? I just loaded it today.

Basically, it's a real time traffic indicator that somehow retrieves its traffic (speeds, etc.) data from people's cell phone gps systems...as they're driving.

Cool, huh? :auto:

This is wild...

In Boston, for instance, the city is planning to launch Street Bump, a mobile-phone app that can identify potholes as people drive on city roads. The app detects minute changes in a phone's accelerometer—the same technology used to shift the orientation of a smartphone screen when it's tilted sideways...

Pretty soon they'll start handing out tickets based on how fast your phone says you are going.

We'll have to pull the battery on our phone or leave it at home lol

Hmmm.....I don't necessarily believe the bolded to be an accurate statement:

Thank you for joining our INRIX community. You are now a part of a large community of users who have joined forces to create the world's best database of traffic flow and incidents. We hope you'll enjoy saving time during your commutes with real-time traffic information as well as reporting police, accidents, hazards and constructions. You now have your very own personal traffic helicopter!

My thinking is, this would imply awareness/authorization. No?

Well, you don't HAVE to download the app.

Oh no, it's 1984!

maybe this time the Blazers will draft wiser.

I have no problems downloading the app, personally...I'm jus sayin'......you know, for chaps like MARIS. :MARIS61:

;)

Actually, what my reference to was that they are pulling location data from non-users. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!!

they have had these for awhile to predict red lights

Yet...

why do you think the government hands out cell phones even to people who can't afford them?

....in Oregon, pre-loaded with the SNAP and Oregon Trail apps.

If you own a car made after 2001 which was sold in the US, Big Brother knows where it is at all times. Same with all cell phones sold in the US.

No APP needed.

Awesome. I feel safer now.

My guess is, generally speaking, the liberal mind envisions a bigger government, yet smaller or no big brother(?)

Go figure. ;)

I envision a much smaller government, but one that focuses mainly on the basic needs of the people rather than empire building and exhorbitant gifts for the 1%.

if thats true, why aren't we hearing about kidnappers, or stolen cars being found quickly?

I'm well on my way towards 1% land. And, when I get there, I hope you sell me a FAT piece of property in beautiful Central Oregon to retire on. :)

Google maps already does this. (the traffic based on other users)
