After what i heard from Kenny Vance and Quick.... I really wonder did kpee make the camby deal to save our season or his job? Or maybe both? I think Allen is getting impatient and by firing Penn hes saying nobody is safe. This should be a crazy summer imo.

I guess if he had traded for a useless player like Dan Gadzuric or some other stiff in 'desperation' instead of actually acquiring a savvy, productive veteran big man using a gimped Travis Outlaw and a down year Steve Blake then I suppose you could make an argument that he did it because he was feeling the heat, but frankly, it was a really nice trade that filled an immediate need and probably will insure that this doesn't end up a completely lost season. :dunno:

Well, they very well could go hand in hand. Although I highly doubt his job is in jeopardy, the best way to ensure job security for a GM is by making good moves to improve your team, whcih he did.

But if he felt no pressure from the owner.... i dont think he makes that deal.

Whats scary for you guys.... is it sounds like Paul Allen thinks a lot like Mixum. i mean the whole cake baking thing was ridiculous. Not trading RLEC was insane. Hedo was a joke. Taking Oden and Durant was a complete disaster. All kpee ever did was get roy and la in 06. Rudy has turned out to be just ok and miller was the last option. When you really investigate... kpee wasnt that good.

Paul had to have signed off on the Hedo offer. While I agree it was a bad move in hindsight, and am very happy it did not happen, PA signs the checks, and approved the offer. Part of that probably suggests Paul is desperate for a winner, but I don't think he's down on KP like Canzano wants us to believe.

Oden over Durant was a no brainer that every GM would have made. Roy and LA. Batum in the late first was a great find. Putting in an offer to Milsap, for whatever reason, ended up with utah dumping Brewer for nothing, and losing Maynor for nothing, which is pretty nice for us in the long run, forcing a rival to lose two young players. The Miller signing, while not his first choice, has worked out well IMO. He took over a poor team and made their talent level the envy of many in the league, and has created a blue print by which other teams are following in re-building. I disagree he wasn't that good.

He did it because it was a no brainer. No other reason.

Mixum -- sorry I don't think you have a chance at working with the Blazers due to philosophical differences. Paul Allen wants to win. You want the Blazers to lose.

No shit. If I eat a free chorizo and my boss lays off a coworker the same day, it doesn't mean I was spared because I ate chorizos, or that I thought I would be safe by eating a free chorizo.

The chorizo was tasty. It was free. So I ate it.

Outlaw and Blake for Camby is the basketball equivalent of a free chorizo. You don't ask questions--you just take that fucker before somebody changes their mind.

you also forgot that Paul Allen wants sane people to work with him, and Mixster isn't sane.

i just saw a unicorn wearing a blazers jersey. it was a bonzi jersey i think

I always see Paul Allen sitting next to KP at Blazer games. I never saw him sitting next to Penn. I am guessing his relationship with KP is a little different.

LOL, repped.

Which may have been Penn's problem. He wasn't going to get the top job unless KP got fired, and that meant the team had to lose.

:dunno: Hey, it's no sillier than some of the other stuff being speculated.

I think Camby's trade was a savior to saving our season and making it the playoffs. KP hasn' done much as I think PA wants to see how much value Rudy and J.Bayless have in their belt.

To get fired in the middle of the season like this... I would guess that something happend or was going on that we haven't read about. The utter silence on the issue from everyone also points to that (in my mind). Everyone saying Vulcan did this... possibly... but isn't Larry Miller team president? Why is it that before Larry Miller we'd hear a lot from out team presidents and now... pretty much nothing at all.

If it was anything performance related... (and I am thinking it wasn't... they'd do that in the offseason) my guess is that it would have had something to do with contract negotiations... putting ink to paper and getting players signed without it turned into a circus. In that respect... KP had very little background and if he has had any failing I think you could point to that. It is possible they want to put someone beside KP with more experience in that area.

Mix, I think it was a good deal... especially in light of Joel's slip in the shower. If we can keep Camby and Oden comes back we have our two serviceable centers, and given Batum's play... Outlaw was not going to play a major role. Big men are just more valuable.

This may be KP's finest deal to date. We will see.

I thought KP made the trade so you would stop calling him KPee.

Go Blazers

The Camby trade was done in order to make the team better. Building the team is Pritchard's job, and he'll be fired if he does it badly. So yes, the Camby move, like every move he makes, was made in order to do his job the best he can and thus not be fired.

Good insight, MIXUM. It takes some out-of-the-box thinking to see that Pritchard acquired Camby to improve the team.
