The Exorcism of Emily Rose

So me and some friends were chillin the other night and they were talking about how good of a movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose is. I usually am not into most non-comedic movies so I was very skeptical. Well we watched it the next night and it was actually really interesting, mostly because they say it is based on a true story.

Did anyone else see this in the theater or rent it or anything? It makes you think that if all that really happened then there is either some extremely psychotic people... or a very real spiritual world. I'm always contemplating the existence of deep things like spirits and afterlife and whatnot, more than a normal person I think, so it struck me as intriguing.

Anyways, thoughts from people who saw it?

Was ok but not great

I was expecting at least half decent scary storyline but cartoons are more scary.

People hyped it up as the next Exorcist, which was kind of unfair. I didn't find it scary at all (except for maybe that part where the dude wakes up and shes all frozen in a wierd position). One thing that ruined it was that a lot of the scary scenes were in the commercial. The storyline was much better though.

In my speech class a person did a speech on how different the movie and the actual happening was.

In fact, the actual Excorcist (the very first one), was mildly based on a story of a little boy. THAT story, is actually weird. I'll try finding that one.

I remember reading somewhere that incidents where people claimed to be possessed by a demon or the devil rose significantly during the release of The Exorcist. Its hard for me to understand the buzz that the movie generated when it came out, but my mom said that nobody had every seen a movie like it before.

Just so you know.... when a movie claims to be based on a true story, you don't automatically believe it.

For example, the Amityville Horror was supposedly based on a true story, yet all the evidence about that incident lead us to believe that it was merely a hoax created by the protagonist to sell his story to the media. The movie "The Hurricane" (Denzel Washington won best actor for his role in it I believe) also claims to be based on a true story but there's been numerous reports about the actual trial for character being portrayed in the movie stating that it was merely a farse. In other words, it would've been like OJ Simpson creating a movie about what "really" happened on that infamous night and then label it as a true story.

With Emily Rose, the actual trial was real but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the events that took place in the movie were actually made up. Especially with the climax of the movie (where they explain the purpose of her being possessed), it's damn near impossible to prove that that actually did occur. Bottom line, with every movie that's based on a true story, you should take whatever they say with a grain of salt.
