Anyone hear about this movie? So far, the cast consists of Jason Statham, Sly Stallone, Jet Li, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren (originally supposed to be Jean Claud Van Damme). There are rumors of Sandra Bullock, Robert Knepper and Forest Whitaker possibly joining the movie, as well.

Jean-Claude Van Damme has spoken to totalfilm.com about why he turned down a part in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, claiming Stallone was just interested in pitching money and action.

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie," he told us. "But I ask him about the subject, about the story."

"He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be."

"[Stallone said:] 'You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.' [So I said:] 'Sly, what is my character?' So I didn’t do the movie."

Why does JCVD care about his character? His role wouldn't have been complex, because Jean-Claude can't act, anyway. What do you expect with this film? Fighting and action. What do you expect when you see JCVD's movies? Fighting and action.

i for one am halfway excited about this movie, and can see it being a sort of cult classic, although with no jcvd, it will probably only win a few razzies instead of all of them.

The Expendables

After years of coruption , murder of American hostages and betrayal of foreign policies, The US with the help of other Nations secretly put together a squad of its most trained millitary personal to finaly over throw the dictator who has caused devastation in South America for over 20 years. The team sets out on its mission to complete the assasination but with little help from the nations as they try to keep the mission secret. After they realize that there will be no outside help they rely on their own sources to fight not only the dictator's army but also the Governments that set them up.

Also Jean-Claude Van Damme apparently was offered a part in the film but he refused due to not understanding what his role would be. (dumbass)


But yeah this will be a great movie, especially with having Stallone, Li, Statham and Lundgren in there. Can't wait to see the trailers.

Wesley Snipes was also offered a role, but couldn't accept it due to tax problems.

Good too see that they've started filming though, and Stallone got hurt in Brazil. (saw it on the news)

I agree. It doesn't look good. Maybe this trailer can help by lowering the expectations, but unfortunally I don't have a good feeling about the movie now.

Yeah. They captured the vibe of an early-90s action flick well but it seems like a cavalcade of cliche.... right up to Couture saying "we've got company".

Wasn't JCVD supposed to be in this too? I wonder what happened there.
