We traded Berry to SA for Duckworth. Whew!

Still couldn't avoid the LaRue bomb, though. In that draft, #2 was Bob McAdoo.

I knew an Obannon bro was going to be there.

That was an amazing trade!

RIP Duckworth!

Portland almost traded for Keith Lee (Paxson was traded for Keith Lee...talk about a bum trade! bad enough they got Schicnnthizzntitting instead).

I look back at Walter Berry and Ronnie Murphy (two straight bad picks) fondly. Not only because Berry netted the Blazers Duck, but because that was the first real drafts I paid attention to. I remember thinking Berry would be a real player for Portland.

It's not surprising that people make mistakes with HSers or one-and-done players. The guys in this articles all played 3 or 4 years of college ball - and the scouts still got it wrong.

Of course, back in the days of LaRue Martin, I suspect the Blazer scouting department consisted of: " You read the sports section in 3 different newspapers a day? You're hired!"
