The last time a fan base was this excited to play us in the first round....

I mean, if we were in their position and we knew the success of doubling dame works (and Nurk is out) I feel they have a reason to be optimistic.

It's up to the team to shut them up.

yep

I remember last season about this time when lots of people were hoping for a match-up with OKC because the Blazers were 4-0 against them that season. Pretty similar circumstances except this season, the 2nd best player on the team that is 0-4 is out. Why the hell wouldn't Thunder fans be happy with the match-up?

Maybe we should learn that regular season results don’t mean jack once the playoffs brackets are set?

I think there can be carry-over from the regular season to the playoffs. Sometimes, there are just match-up issues

we've got some 'resources' in this forum; I'd be curious if there was ever a time in NBA history when a team won a conference playoff series against a team that won the regular season 4-0

I've been wondering the same. I have no idea how to search for such info.

The Suns swept the Bucks this year. Does that mean they'd win a playoff series against them?

It would be sweet if Nurk showed up for game 1, crowd would go fucking nuts and the team would get juiced off it. Doubtful though.
Bring him in riding a wheel chair. Or a hospital bed if they have to. Just get him there, have him make a brief statement, then yell RIP CITYYYYYYY!!!!

Haha

I loved that last night, every Nurk-related sign shown on the jumbotron got a massive cheer from the crowd. I hope that guy gets how much this city loves him.

Who on their team is as good at defense as rondo and holiday?

As has been discussed before, the results this year were impacted by two B2Bs and a first game back after a 7 game road trip. All the games were competitive. Last year, with a lesser roster for the Blazers and essentially the same one for the Thunder, the Blazers swept them. Yeah, Nurk is missing, but Kanter is playing well and is very familiar with the Thunder from his years there. To me all of that says this is going to be a tough, hard fought series that either team can win.

The match ups that worry me are, obviously PG, but more so I keep thinking about Steven Adams bullying us down low.

Other than that, I hope the Thunder are as over confident as their ignorant cow pie tossing fan base.

Im think Kanter will get his against the Kiwi.

sorry...those look like excuses to me. I'm not saying there isn't something to those factors, but it's not like B2B sets are unheard of in the NBA, and in fact, in one of those B2B's for Portland, OKC was on the 2nd night of a B2B themselves.

yes, the games were close, but at a certain point it needs to be at least acknowledged when something goes beyond just being a fluke of scheduling. I'd say 4-0 is past that point, and trying to stick an asterisk on 3 on 4 games because of rather normal NBA scheduling seems kind of weak

but I do agree it's going to be a hard-fought series. The difference this year compared to last year is that last year, OKC had regular Paul George; this season they had MVP-level PG. If the MVP-level PG shows up for the series it will probably be lights out for Portland
