I've posted before about where current Blazers are on the all-time list. As I was looking at the list of all-timers, I remembered that some stats (steals/blocks/offensive rebounds) were not tracked the first few years the Blazers were in existence. I had been ranking my all-time greatest Blazers by Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Blocks and Points (RASBP). I realized that left some of the original players (Petrie, Wicks, etc.) at a disadvantage. I then decided to also rank by just Rebounds, Assists, Points (RAP). It is interesting to see where people are on the different lists but it is more interesting to see where current Blazers are on both of the lists - one shows the little things (steals/blocks) that are often less noticed/recognized.

The rankings are the average of each players ranking for each of the categories.

Top's
Person / RAP Rank / RASBP Rank
Clyde Drexler / 1.7 / 2.6
Jerome Kersey / 5.2 / 5.7
Mychal Thompson / 6.7 / 6.8
Terry Porter / 6.7 / 13.8 (#2 in steals but 47 in blocks)
LaMarcus Aldridge / 7.7 / 7.6
Sidney Wicks / 9.0 / 15.8 (steals/blocks not tracked entire time here)
Cliff Robinson / 10.7 / 8.0
Rasheed Wallace / 12.7 / 10.2
Damon Stoudamire / 13.0 / 26.6 (9th in steals but 85th in blocks)
Jim Paxson / 15.0 / 20.0 (blocks bringing him down)
Geoff Petrie / 16.7 / 34.2 (steals/blocks not tracked entire time)
Arvydas Sabonis / 17.3 / 16.6
Nic Batum / 18.3 / 16.4 (not great anywhere, but good everywhere)
Larry Steele / 19.7 / 22.0
Bob Gross / 21.0 / 16.6
Buck Williams / 21.0 / 18.8
Rod Strickland / 21.0 / 26.0
Damian Lillard / 21.3 / 27.4
Brandon Roy / 21.3 / 27.6
Maurice Lucas / 22.0 / 23.2

The Blocks aspect of the ranking obviously gives some advantage to taller guys - then again, so does the rebound aspect. However, by the same token, the assist aspect tends to give advantage to guards.

Comparing our current roster:

Person / RAP Rank / RASBP Rank
Damian Lillard / 21.3 / 27.4
CJ McCollum / 73.3 / 76.2
Meyers Leonard / 77.3 / 83.4
Mason Plumlee / 102.0 / 94.4 (blocks bumps him up)
Allen Crabbe / 110.7 / 102.4
Al-Farouq Aminu / 114.7 / 105.0 (both block and steals help)
Chris Kaman / 116.3 / 116.4
Ed Davis / 130.0 / 116.0 (blocks main factor, steals help also)
Gerald Henderson / 150.3 / 143.0 (blocks bump him up)
Mo Harkless / 156.3 / 141.8 (blocks primary, steals secondary)
Noah Vonleh / 166.7 / 153.8 (blocks bump him up)
Pat Connaghton / 240.0 / 241.8
Brian Roberts / 258.3 / 254.8
Luis Montero / 282.3 / 272.8
Cliff Alexander / 288.3 / 262.0 (blocks bump him up)

Looking at the current roster we have several people with notable differences and it is due to them doing little things that makes their rank go up when you factor in steals and blocks - kind of the opposite of a couple of others.

Jarrett Jack - RAP = 48.3 but RASBP = 65.2
Steve Blake - RAP = 37.0 but RASBP = 51.0
Kelvin Ransey - RAP = 56.0 but RASBP = 69.6

Take from this what you will, but it made me appreciate some of the guys on the team a bit more knowing they go out and do what they can and are not necessarily dependent upon getting their points to contribute to the team.

Gramps...
