Do you know more about the news than the average American?

Test your knowledge of prominent people and major events in the news by taking our short 13-question quiz. Then see how you did in comparison with 1,052 randomly sampled adults asked the same questions in a national survey conducted online August 7-14 by the Pew Research Center. The new survey includes a mixture of multiple-choice questions using photographs, maps, charts, and text.
When you finish, you will be able to compare your News IQ with the average American, as well as with the scores of college graduates and those who didn’t attend college; with men and women; and with people your age as well as other ages.

i never watch the news though, except on the daily show or john oliver or whatever

I scored 12. I missed the one about the picture of the woman.

Same... I had the right one selected at first, too, then changed it.

12/13 Missed the Google Glass. But hell, I guessed on 4 or 5 others.

same here. I have listened to the story a couple of weeks ago, but radio has no pictures, and the name while familiar I could not associate it to any particular story

You scored better than 96% of the public, below 1% and the same as 3%.

TOTAL NUMBER OF QUESTIONS ANSWERED CORRECTLY

Missed on the DJIA line.

12/13. I missed the Nigeria question. I think I misread the distribution as few young, many old.

8/13 surprised I did that well. Also I thought oregon allowed same sex marriage...

12/13. I missed Question #1. "You scored better than 96% of the public, below 1% and the same as 3%."

I already forgot what Question #1 was. Good thing they didn't test memory.

Question one was the same sex marriage map one. If it was a memory test I would have scored much higher :)

That's how I get along on the board. Few posters stand out to me because I don't remember them. You all look alike to us Occidentals.

Yeah, I didn't understand the same sex marriage question. California had a ban on same sex marriage which was overruled by the court system. Oregon had the same thing, but they were not colored in the same. WTF

Interesting results on our board.

12/13 for me too. I said higher minimum wage instead of same sex marriage for #1. Duh!

"You scored better than 96% of the public, below 1% and the same as 3%."

Bunch of smart, news junkies here in the OT section. Maybe not surprising.

I got the question right, but only because I didn't know any better. With all the rulings for and against, and assuming that quiz was done sometime in the past, I just figured it the correct same sex marriage was the most likely correct response.

Good point, I sent a letter to the "teacher" about the error in their quiz. I expect my answer to be retroactively bumped to an A+
