Worked fine for me. As opposed to the advice you've been given, I just use the ''media" button just to the right of the smiley button, and paste the link directly into there - no need to edit the link.

Do I need to use the attachment thingy or just copy and paste?

The great news is that I am off today, so it either gets figured out today, or I dive further into insanity

This one is correct. Only thing that needs to be done is to copy that and re-paste it just as letters, not as a link (so when you paste it, the characters need to be black, not red), and then the forum software will display the tweet.

You have to change x to Twitter because Elon Musk is an ego-maniac. Or more precisely, because the people who program the software this forum runs on (XenForo) programmed it to display tweets based on the twitter URL, but they haven't gone in and updated the software to do the same thing with "x.com" URL's.

I changed the x.com to twitter.com and it worked.

I think you're using the IMG which is immediately to the right of the smiley, instead of MEDIA, which is the next one over to the right after IMG

Interesting--I've never used that MEDIA icon, but I like that that works as well.
