Some interesting tiddlybits:

He defends the pick and roll very well.
Defends spot up shooters well (thinking Warriors here.)

On offense he's a good ball hander. He gets a high percentage of assists. Takes some pressure off Dame and CJ.

Can finish at the rim, doesn't force threes. Our threes come mostly off motion, not from an inside/out game with spot-ups. Don't think he'll be forced to take threes. If he can get to the hole and finish that's big.

And he can post up, word!

These things fill some holes we have. Neil might know what he's doing here.

I refuse to believe. We accidentally made the playoffs.

I definitely see him missing 10 3 pointers in a row while Stotts yells from the sideline "shoot it!" and then missing his place in the rotation for Pato_O

He seems like a defensive specialist. Because his offensive numbers look pretty bad. He ranks 56 off 76 among sgs in TS%. Just above Tony Allen. And that is as a relatively low volume shooter.

He actually has a track record of being adequate from 3.

In general I like this signing. (Not for the money, of course, but there have been worse contracts so far.) My only regret is that I always dreamed of getting Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and you can't really have him and Turner playing together. (But then, the Hornets probably weren't going to give up MKG anyway.)

he's been workin with a shooting coach in Cali so hopefully we'll see some improvement, he can certainly afford the best with his new contract!

Aminu went from terrible to at least relevant as a three point shooter in Stotts' system. Meyers had no three point game when drafted, and now it's the only thing he does. Harkless started the season terribly from three, but was hitting them at 34% in the playoffs.

Turner is older than all those guys at 27, but maybe being in a culture dominated by the three point shooting of Lillard and CJ will rub off on him. I hope, anyway. Otherwise he's kind of like Batum but without range--an ok bench player.

He would be our drive and dish man on offense, and our pick switch man on defense.

I like him and I think Stotts will use him effectively. I can see Turner being on the floor at the same time as Dame, CJ, Aminu, and Plums. He will be asked to be the primary perimeter defender along with Aminu and there will be times when he will be asked to play point SF as Dame and CJ play off the ball. This gives Stotts a lot more flexibility within his motion offense and P&R defense.

You can see why some called him Roy lite. Seriously one of the fugliest shot forms ever though. I wanted Turner a while back, so I'm not disappointed. My only "disappointment" is the amount of cap space we used on him.

Hey MM, have you studied the five year projection of the cap? I wasnt fully aware until the other day when I read up on a few articles and the projection is its going to go up to $102 or so next year and then another $108 after that. And then from there who knows? But even at $105ish, this will seem like a very good contract. No?

Turner essentially signed a 4/45 deal based on 2015-2016 salary cap
Right. $11.1 mill per. NOt bad really. And if we can get Crabbe for about $12-14 millnow? Those will be good signings in Two years.

Any of you entertaining dreams of Turner magically transforming himself into a competent deep threat are delusional. He might post a modest increase just because of the number of open looks he'll get, but if he averages more than two attempts per game something has gone terribly wrong.

Odds are he's going to be put in the Nic Batum facilitator role and do his damage on drives and midrange shots and he'll be passing to Damian and CJ on the wing. Trying to camp him out in the corner is a recipe for failure. I just hope he can somehow cut down his high career turnover rate in Stotts' system.

Aminu was a career 27% 3pt shooter before coming to Portland. Turner beats that.

Turner creeping up to the 35% mark wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Stotts and NO gots this mang!!! Level heads prevail This is a good add for now.

I "love" Turner's quote about not knowing if he'd be making $12 mil or $17+ mil. I haven't read much on things, so my opinion was formed in a vacuum, but I took it as he knew he was coming to Portland but wasn't clear how much he'd be making. I very well may have misinterpreted, but it has me scratching my head like, "if we were going to get him at so much, why did we spend so much more?"

I'd rather have Wessy Wes. His deal doesn't look so crazy now, does it?

Career 30%, shot 24% last year. Not good.
after the allstar break he improved to over 50% from deep...Aminu did the same thing in Dallas before we signed him..shot really well second half of the year and even better in the playoffs.

Watching film on him this week the guy loves to finish in traffic and shoot midrange jumpers..I don't think he's ever thought of himself as a 3 pt shooter...I don't think Harkless or Aminu did either before they got here. He's here to get CJ and Dame better looks from deep. Throws what I think will be the best lob passes on the roster too...our bigs are going to love him.

Because his agent knew, and his agent also knew how much Jackson and the Knicks were offering.

Problem is with the ball in his hands he's great but off of the ball he's terrrrrrrrrible. Decent defender though. I like the player jut not the price.

What don't you see at all? You just basically agreed with everything I just said.
