The Whole Voting process

I turned in my ballot today in Oregon. It was a simple process. I filled out my ballot while sitting at my dinner table, I sealed and signed it. I got in my car and dropped it off at a ballot box. Even with driving and getting somewhat lost when I realized I went to the wrong building the whole process from filling out my ballot to dropping it off took 30 minutes.

I hear people are waiting for 8 hours to vote in other states...WTF!

Why are people having to use machines to vote anywhere in this country? Why? They have been prooven to be problem ridden and they cost a ton of money. I hope the next president addresses the issue of the election process, because right now it is bad in almost every state in the country. I am glad I live in Oregon.

Red states are opposed because they view liberals as too lazy to stand in line.

That's why they create obstacles to easy voting.

Same as intimidating blacks from voting by threatening them, only more subtle and harder to prove.

I liked the Wisconsin ballots where you just draw an arrow to the guy you wanna vote for.

Also, it is pretty ridiculous that we don't have nationwide same day voter registration nationwide.

Oregon has a real simple system. I like it.

I love the Oregon system, but it's rife with fraud possibilities. At a voting booth, you receive a ballot from a voting coordinator, go to a booth, make your decisions and drop it in a box. That box generally has a system of control to ensure your vote is cast.

Under a mail ballot, there are days where your ballot isn't accounted for on both ends of the exchange. You never receive confirmation that your ballot was received.

I love the system because I was able to take a few hours and really go through the issues when I made my vote. However, it's not a perfect one.

Good point. The voting booth certainly eliminates most fraud. But those darn chads...

I think there should be a hybrid system. One that ensures that you receive your ballot (sending in a piece of mail with a password to confirm that it was indeed you that received the ballot. Another to ensure that the ballot sent in your name was the one that was received, or that it was received at all. I would prefer a system of triplicate ballots where you kept one copy of your ballot and were sent back another copy.

I'm certain the fraud that goes on with state ballots is pretty low, but I'm willing to pay a little more to ensure that the system has a few safeguards. In the future, I'd also like to see the ability to vote by computer.
