Hope you find your cat. Would suck to lose a pet like that. When I was staying at a relative's house in Ha Noi, one of their dogs got snatched by thieves. Dognapping is an issue living in Ha Noi. They consider dog meat to be somewhat of a delicacy in many parts of northern VN. If we had found the thieves, they might've been dinner for the dogs.

That’s been the case with other cats I’ve had. Dogs seem to want to be home with the family but I’ve never actually had a cat just stay home and die. He was really healthy and vibrant for his age though so idk. I’ll keep lookin.

Interesting, my cats returned home at the end. Even my feral cat Margot. I trapped her to be spayed, fed her, but she remained feral her entire 13 years. She never let me come close, I never petted her, but when her kidneys failed she came inside and crawled behind me biggest bookcase. With some difficulty I found a vet who would come over, use a net to haul her out and euthanize her sitting on the floor.

As others have said, there is clearly something wrong with this guy. Killing animals, especially in such a cruel way, is almost always a precursor to killing people.

Growing up, we had cats. In my life, I've had to put to sleep more cats than I care to admit (meaning, Im old and I've had lots of cats in my life). Only 2 died "at home". One died on the back porch, with one of my other cats sitting next to him waiting to come inside.

The other fell off the back of the couch and was dead. I think she must've had a heart attack or stroke. She was one of the most co-dependent cats I've ever known. Loved attention, and would follow you around and if you picked her up and took her with you (to go sit somewhere else), she would stay and fall asleep.

She was 12-13 at the time, so it wasn't like she was young (and she was a ferocious eater. It wasn't uncommon for her to finish the other cats meals for them).

All that said, there's a special place in hell for people who torture and kill pets.

On a bit different note, I remember when we "had" to put my wife's Bichon down due to cancer. One of the cruelest experiences I've ever been through. Following that, my wife was pretty depressed for months, until I surprised her with our two new pets. BTW, they're both, ummmm.....females. Heh.
