The luck comes into play in regards to guys like Jeter and CC. Can Jeter bounce back, stay healthy and have a decent season? Can CC also bounce back and have a much better year? I'm not asking for 20-4 with a 3.00 ERA. Pineda also needs to come in here and be an effective starter.

The right moves would be to resign Cano and get a pitcher and catcher in here. They were talking on WFAN today about Garza and Mccann. It might also be worth bringing back Granderson on a reasonable deal. I would also resign Reynolds for the power he brings off the bench. Arod's situation is unknown so I can't include him in any plans.

That wouldn't be a terrible seven that you round out with guys like Nunez, Reynolds, Nix and Wells.

Not a horrible staff and I wouldn't mind one more year of Kuroda is they can limit his innings.

I don't know I was just thinking that with some things going right and some smart moves next year doesn't have to be a bad as everyone thinks. I'm sure they can look at some other moves as well.
 
The operative phrase is "right moves" something that Cashman does not seem to possess. Seems like he (Cashman) has maintained a low profile lately which has led me to believe that hiss butt has been reamed by one or both of the Steinbrenner Tadpoles. Beane in Oakland has little money, pulls guy from the dumpster and wins, Cashman pulls guys from the dumpster and they smell up a whole season.
 
I've wondered about how quiet Cashman has been as well. I'm sure he's on the hot seat with Yankee management.
 
...he could very well be on his way out...but his recent hiatus from the press may also have something to do with the ARod situation...remember, it got kinda nasty there for awhile...but not a word from anyone since.
 
I'm not concerned with catcher and hope they let the youth take that spot, the only reason fans looked at that as a big issue is because the entire team stunk with the bat so it stood out, I say with a solid lineup the C can be a weak hitter as long as he can call a great game, handle the pitchers well, and play good D, that's all that matters, and if he hits then bonus.

And the reason I say that is because they have bigger fish to spend money on, I say spend as much as possible on pitching, because in the end that's why they lost, they need a new ace to start with, and another, two good starters is the focus IMO, then you add a SS/3B needed as well, because Nunez is no starter, and a reliever, you have a ton of work to do, forget the C, get somebody off the heap and let Romine/Murphy have the spot.
 
How about a guy who gets on base, like Choo, over Granderson? I also have zero problem with bringing in a proven guy like McCann to be the primary catcher for 2 years with the youth being his backup until Sanchez can be the full time guy down the road. The excess inventory of catchers can be trade chips.
 
I agree, let Romine and Murphy boogie woogie. Romine was starting to shine a bit with the bat before his concussion issues. Cervelli will also be back but the Yankees may have other ideas in light of his "Prescription drug" selections.

And he was MIA during the Mo ceremony also. Could it be that maybe the Boys (Hal) has grown tired of his antics and are going to bump him upstairs and bring fresh eyes to the table. Either that or he is leaving, I don't trust his ability, never have.

I would like Kuroda back... can't count on him though... can't count on Pineda either... so that means we are looking for two more assuming we can in fact sign Garza...

In addition to needing Jeter and CC to have decent/solid years, we also need Tex to have a bounce back/decent/solid year... We are also counting on Cano signing... now it probably will happen but in a manner that will not be helpful long term (over paid for too many years)... I can't see McCann signing either as much as I would like it...

I think in order for this team to contend next year, we need LOTS of luck...
 
For the same money that you would pay Granderson you could get Ellsbury. A solid proven lead off guy who hits for average & plays a very good CF & is one of the best SB guys I've seen in many years 52 of 56 this past year. Health may be an issue though. And NO! I can't settle for Romine / Murphy. If you can get someone like McCann 3-4 years at 15per, you jump at it. So catching is IMO an issue that needs to be addressed.

3rd base, we just may have to settle for Nunez / Reynolds. Cano needs to be resigned but honestly more then 6 years would be a mistake. Resign Nix & bring back Ryan to spell Jeter. DH I'd love to see them sign Kendrys Morales who can also back up Tex at 1st. I could live with an outfield of Gardner, Ellsbury & Soriano. Ichiro is no longer a full time player.

Pitching? Garza doesn't impress me. He's a career 500 pitcher who's not worth IMO the 10M he's being paid. Kuroda is a question mark due to his desire to pitch in Japan. Pineda hasn't pitched in well over a year so you don't know what you're going to get from him. So basically all we can be sure of is Nova & CC who's career seems to be heading in the wrong direction. Even if you throw in Phelps we still need 2 starters.

There is MUCH work to be done & unfortunately if dumb (Hal) & dumber (hank) are serious about the 189M water mark & you still have Cashman in the front office & clueless Joe still on the bench I don't see much to look forward to for next year.

I like the idea of Ellsbury, but as you mentioned, he's a health risk... Cano, they pretty much have to sign him even though I think anything over 5 years is a mistake and should have traded him when they had a chance, but I digress... McCann would be great, but who knows if he'll be had.... pitching is the real issue... too many holes to plug (as of right now)
 
You know as hated as he was by many, I would have no worries about this team at all if the Boss was still around. And that's the difference between him & his idiot sons.
 
I guess you forgot all those years George ran the team into the ground, like for an entire decade.

The only thing George did for the Yankees was spend money, and as far as I know they still do that.
 
George mellowed out a bit in the early oughts, we know this to be true because Torre should have been canned after the '04 season. And yep he wanted winners but he did pull some weird stuff like firing Gabe Paul who put together the '76 through 78 Yankees. I always thought George should have let Billy Marin alone, the man knew what he was doing. Bob Lemon may have been last in charge of that '78 team but it was Billy Martins Club. But all baseball players owe a debt of gratitude to Curt Flood for challenging the reserve clause, and George Steinbrenner for raising salary levels. But overall I liked George the man came up with some cool stuff. I heard Pinella tell a story about Georges short hair policy. I guess Lou was disgruntled over that so Steinbrenner took him to the stadium inside top, pointed to the river saying "when you can walk across that river you can have long hair"

I don't know how you figure that he ran the team into the ground for almost a decade. Lets review.....

When he took over the team in 73 he promised a team in the WS within 5 years. He did that.

From 1976-1981 (6 years) the Yankees played in 4 world series winning two.
1982 we played a little under 500 while George restocked the team.
From 1983-1988 (6 years) The Yankees averaged near 90 wins a season & competed every year.
From 1989-1992 (4 years) I like to call this...."THE GARBAGE YEARS" 4 years not a decade.

The rest as they they is history as we've competed EVERY year since.

they didnt lose because of pitching. the team era is 3.9 compared to the indians, rays and sox at an average of 3.75. they lost because of offense. the team ops is under .700. that is 40 points less than tampa, 45 points less than the indians, 60 points less than oakland and 110 points less than boston
