Filling in for Sly this morning? LolI figured Russia would get 50% of the vote.
My impression is that the "panel of basketball media" often follow that train of "thought", and are more likely to do so than the fans. The players, less than the fans, and more on merit. My fear= Dame not making it due to Portlands record despite ridiculous numbers. I fucking hate that argument. "Record isn't good so uhhhh no all star vote for me". Records good means basically, "lets just find the three best guys off that team and make them all stars even if averaging 10 points a game". The west guards are insane. Dare I say Dame somehow gets screwed over again
lot of Rocket fans there will vote for Yao Ming's team...Harden will get a ton of votes..How about China?
Well in your opinion how do you think it should go? Which players should Dame trump that you fear will get in instead of him?My fear= Dame not making it due to Portlands record despite ridiculous numbers. I fucking hate that argument. I honestly don't think Dame's chances are great...too many guards ahead of him and that suits me fine...another repeat of the fuck you post allstar snub tour as Sly mentioned somewhere is perfect..rest his foot...get some sun and surf inWell in your opinion how do you think it should go? That's exactly it. "All Star" is a popularity contest, completely divorced from how good a player is on the court. There may be some loose correlation between ability and stardom, but this exhibition game has nothing to do with ability, and everything to do with popularity in the eyes of the fans. Some fans want the all star game to be based on performance, which it is not. If the league wanted an exhibition game based on ability, it could let the players and coaches choose All NBA teams, and play a game at the end of the season. But I doubt the players want that. The All Star game is a marketing tool, to hype their product to casual TV commercial watching fans.Interesting, but it really changes what an all-star is.
"Star," by definition, is what the fans make of a player, no?

Honest question. What do you think means more to the HOF voters.
All NBA nods or All Star nods?
Again, the word "Fame" implies popularity, not skill.
Though the electors certainly take into account all sorts of things. Length of career, awards, stats, etc.
I get it and that is my question. Do you think the HOF committee puts more stock into stats or fame? Obviously numbers are first and foremost but many HOF's don't make all NBA.

The guy is in the HOF. Had a relatively short peak career (5 years, three 20+ PPG in the NBA). Realize that in those days, 20 PPG was not particularly a great feat.
He's in because he was very popular and one of the first flashy players. Dunker, high flying, agile moves, etc.
And you are kinda validating my point. So this guy never made the all NBA but still made the HOF because of popularity, or being a star?
Just doesn't add up to me.

All I ever hear about is "Player X is a ## time all star". All-NBA almost seems like an afterthought to most media and fans.I get it and that is my question. My hope: Dame gets stiffed, and proceeds to get a ton of rest so he can take the rest of the league over his red checkered apron for the rest of the season. My fear= Dame not making it due to Portlands record despite ridiculous numbers. There's the All-NBA teams to recognize ability, as you say.
Like I said, "Star" implies what the fans will pay to see.
Hence my large concern for a player like Dame wanting to make the HOF. His numbers will be there, but the damn All star game is a joke, yet plays a significant portion of the committees decision making.
