So I had a short three day vacay planned with the folks in LA this next week, but due to some unforseen circumstances, they cannot make the trip. Either I cancel and lose the $ I spent on my flight, or go through with it like a loner and find stuff to tear up.

I know we have some socal people here. Anyone got any suggestions on places to go and not look too lonely :confused: ?

I haven't been in the area in like 10+ years, so I have no idea what's going on there.
 
Also, I don't have a hotel yet, but if I do go through with this, I'm prolly gonna stay somewhere near LAX or the nearest decent beach. Hopefully with Priceline, I can get in for ~300 for the weekend.

Hook up with El Pres, stay at his place, nothing but cocaine and hookers for 3 days.
 
Go to the beach - Santa Monica, Venice, or Manhattan Beach

Walk around the Farmers Market/The Grove

A day at Universal Studios or Disneyland is fun, but pricey and crowded

Go visit Denny in San Diego

SD and theme parks are prolly out. Don't wanna drive to SD and studios/parks are not really my thing. But can I get from the beaches to downtown (and maybe a day trip to Malibu) or the farmers' market without a car?

oh man, LA and no car? I think the best you can hope for is to stumble upon a good taco truck...

I'm pretty sure if you actually stayed with El Prez, you'd discover his lifestyle is more cold cereal and watching Netflix.

This. These are probably my favorite things to do in LA. If you're staying by LAX you won't even need a rental car (it'll actually be a hassle), just use Uber or Lyft.


If its this weekend, hit me up and we can grab some beers, I live right near LAX. I'll probably go out in Manhattan Beach tomorrow night and probably do some day drinking on Sunday at the Whaler in Venice or hit the beach or something.

Its prepared salads from Whole Foods and Apple TV dammit.

Good stuff, and will do. It's next weekend (19th-21st)-- always down for day drinkin at the beach.

There's an express bus from Downtown Santa Monica that takes you to downtown LA. There isn't much to do in Downtown though. You can't get to the Grove without a car.

You may like the Getty Museum, the Getty Villas, The Peterson Automotive Museum and the LaBrea Tar Pits. The Peterson and the Tar Pits are near the Farmer's Market/Grove and are also near the LA County Museum of Art. The Getty Villas are in Malibu and you need a rez, the Getty Museum is near Brentwood and its free but you have to pay $15 for parking.

Nice, I have next Friday off actually. I am going to a Macallan tasting event the night before and I was planning to get kind of wasted so I took Friday off. haha. Maybe we can grab drinks at the Bungalow in Santa Monica, which has the hottest girls on the westside, gotta go there pretty early like for Happy hour or else its like an hour+ line to get in.

Yeah, the cheapest/best value is probably going to be the Custom Hotel (like 6 blocks from me) in Westchester/Playa del Rey or the Hacienda in El Segundo. The hotels on Century Blvd are decent but the area sucks monkey balls.

For a 2-3 iterinary this is what I would do. I'm assuming you have a car.

Day 1:
I'd try to use Uber/Lyft or the Bus for this as much as possible.

Go to Abbott Kinney Blvd in Venice for some coffee and to walk around a bit. They probably have food trucks.

Walk to the Venice Boardwalk. Check out the vendors, take pics. Maybe check out the "Venice Freak Show".

Walk along the Venice Boardwalk all the way to the Santa Monica Pier. Check out the Santa Monica Pier area. Hit up the 3rd Street Promenade.

Go drink somewhere in Santa Monica and/or Venice.


Day 2: Hit up the Farmer's Market/Grove. Eat lunch at a vendor at the Farmer's Market. Walk around the Grove real quick, take some pics.

Hit up the LaBrea Tar Pits Museum or any of the other museums on Museum Row.

Go to Korea Town and get some Korean BBQ (actually a little hard with only 1 person though since most have 2 person minimums). Alternative is to go to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, Street Tacos or some place you're craving.

Go to the stores on La Brea and 1st. There are a few nice streetware vendors and retro sports store (such as And-Still). Drive around up and down Beverly Blvd, 3rd Street, Hollywood, Sunset Strip, etc. No need to really stop though.

Day 3:
Hit up the South Bay. Manhattan or Hermosa Beach piers. Or both. Maybe rent a bike. Get breakfast at Uncle Bills Pancake House if its not too crowded.


If you're a foodie, I'd change it up a bit. Get some dope Ramen in Little Osaka region, maybe some farm to table shit or a Burger at Father's Office in Culver City (or Santa Monica too).

A ballgame at Dodger Stadium is a LOT of fun. Don't wear Giants gear.

Try to find the parking lot where Jim Rockford's trailer was parked in Malibu.

Drive slowly through Compton with the windows down and "Sweet Home Alabama" playing at full volume.
