It's very sad because I think you might be thinking what I'm thinking in that this is not going to end well. The start is going to be removal of his jaw.

Unfortunately, when cancer does return it usually does with a vengeance. Sadly on a very short time after his first surgery for the disease. From all accounts he's a good man and doesn't deserve this. Especially after having to have dealt with the death of his young son several years ago.

That is as sad alright....damn I don't wish this on anyone....

I once saw a man, worked around him on rare occassion, who had his lower jaw removed, and he was a horrific sight, It was all I could do to not freak out. Hell think what it must of been like for him...a hole in his esophagus to speak in his voice box. With the upper jaw removed, if necessary Jim is screwed, and that is horrific, damn sad, very sad.

That is very sad news. I don't know if anyone remembers the movie critic Roger Ebert but he went through (I believe) a similar thing & by the time the end came for him not to long ago he was completely unrecognizable.

I remember Hebert's long ride home....I also remember his partner Siskel also passed years prior to Hebert, yet I can't remember how Siskel passed away....sad, anytime one has cancer, a heart attack, or any bad medical problem or injury.

The cells that make up the head, mouth and neck are very complex, and the interior surface epithelial cells regenerate very effectively. Therefore cancers of that region are inherently aggressive. Sadly the prognosis isn't good. We'll make a lot of progress fighting cancers, but I'm afraid this class will by one of the last to fall along with brain cancers and cancers of vital organs (liver, pancreas, etc.).
