I see and smell the smoke from here.Stotts should be given an extension immediately
This thread isn't looking as crazy as the other one...
This game was neither but it also wasn't indicative of us being the greatest team blah blah blah. This game showed that we are the most dangerous team in the league for the Lakers. The Lakers do not have the back court to take advantage of our back courts inability to defend... then we have two forwards that are athletic enough to bother/slow down both LeBron and AD. Finally and this is nothing new, we have one of the most potent offenses in the league, the only thing that is new is that it seems to be more diverse this season but we'll have to wait and see about if that holds up.Give Stotts at least 10 games before you can claim long term. I consider this game a fluke or miracle.

The horrible thing is a bunch of other teams can derail us because while you can cover up one defensive liability in the back court you can't play both Dame and CJ the minutes Stotts does and cover up for both of their glaring defensive weaknesses against a team with a well rounded offense. The Lakers just happen to be a two man offense that we should be able to beat most of the time we play them. Other teams should be harder to get by but I hope I'm wrong. I also hope (in vain) that Stotts will see when we need to be a defense first team and completely stagger Dame's and CJ's minutes, only having one serious defensive liability on the court at a time.
without the neck I'd say Terry is a solid 5'8Hmmmm

I can tell you that game wasn't a miracle or a fluke. That's what happens when a team has two guys that can slow down LeBron and AD while still having a ton of offensive firepower. There was a reason that so many analysts thought we were the greatest threat to the Lakers before Ariza opted out... well now we have two, younger, faster Arizas. The win wasn't fluky in the least bit. With three games into the season, it is too early for Stotts to ascertain if our defense is a key element in the Blazers status in the league. Like I said, that game was a fluke or miracle.
And this is where Trent comes in.This game was neither but it also wasn't indicative of us being the greatest team blah blah blah. I guess we'll look back on this after what will likely be four regular season games against the Lakers this season and see if it was a fluke. I'm telling you we are Lakers killers but have a lot of problems with other teams. I know it's a nuanced idea but if healthy we will beat the best team in the league more often than we won't but we probably are not a top 5 team in the league. I might be wrong about the second part... maybe we're a lot better than I think but we are built to beat the Lakers.
We can hope that Stotts will allow this to be where Trent comes in but if Dame and CJ are our number one and two guys in minutes played regardless of the match up. We will have a ton of trouble against quite a few teams. And this is where Trent comes in.
I'm actually not that optimistic about our chances against the second tier of teams in the league after the Lakers because almost all of them are more balanced than the Lakers are. I just think that the Lakers are a good match up for us. I may be wrong about everything but I'm more sure that we can beat the Lakers in a seven game than I would be against the Nuggets, Clippers, Mavs, Bucks, Nets or Celtics. This was 1 of 72 games. Any team is beatable in a single regular season game. We will undoubtedly have more "quality wins" and "bad losses" just like the other 29 teams. I don't think beating the Lakers in December is proof we're in a good position to beat them come May.
Without doubt, this roster has more viable options than we had last year when we were rolling out Melo in the starting lineup and playing guys like Baze, Tolliver, Ant, Little, Gabriel, and Skal meaningful minutes. That's what is making you and others feeling more optimistic, I'm guessing.

I say>>>>>>>>Good Karma to ya @blazerkor. Still, with the counter view, I Remember when the Warriors owned us.I'm actually not that optimistic about our chances against the second tier of teams in the league after the Lakers because almost all of them are more balanced than the Lakers are. That's not going off of last night's performance or anything recent, that's purely what I think of teams (rosters and coaching) vs teams... like the way they match up instead of just overall talent level. Maybe I'm totally off and we could beat all of those other teams and we would get wrecked by the Lakers... maybe we can't beat any of these teams in a series. I can't be sure but I like the way our personnel matches up with the Lakers better than it does against any second tier team (if you see the Lakers as the only first tier team).
From February 14th against the Warriors to March 18th against the Clippers we had 13 straight wins in 2018.~^I like your points. Will you remember this game, if they turn cold and develop a losing streak? Too early to raise victory flags. I think the last time the Blazers had a 10 game winning streak was about 5 years ago (stat to search for). I'm cautious cause we never get to the alter where the crown is; The Blazers are more like a team that punts out of the arena in the first round. Now that is likely karma.
